Pretty much a break even night for me last night on the NHL, going 3-2 to win a couple dollars. Tonight we have an interesting four game slate, let’s win!
Capitals vs. Oilers (7:00)
This cross conference game isn’t great to start the night. The Capitals are coming off a 2-1 win at home against the Kings on Monday (easy under), just their third win in their last eleven games. They’ve been struggling quite a bit in that stretch offensively, but for the most part their defense had been good all season, with a 9-8-2 record. The Oilers are off to a pretty bad start to the season at just 9-8-4. They have three wins in their last five games, coming off getting dominated 5-1 in Buffalo on Monday night. Their defense has been horrendous, and their offense hasn’t been all that great in the first two months of the season either. I’d slightly lean the Caps win here, but don’t like it enough to bet on. I’d slightly lean the under, but with the Oilers trending over, the best play on this game is laying off of it entirely.
Sabres vs. Flames (7:30)
Pretty bad game here between the worst teams in each conference, and I’ll be in the building for it at KeyBank Center. I’m sure it’ll be a real doozy with both of these teams struggling on both ends of the ice. Coming off one of their best games of the year, dominating the Oilers in every facet of the game for a 5-1 win at home on Monday, the Sabres have won two in a row after a stretch of just one win in their previous nine games, but are still in last place in the Eastern Conference with a 7-8-4 record. The Flames are the worst team in the league, dead last with a 5-13-2 record. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 5-2 loss in Chicago last night (nice +105 win for me) and have just one win in their last six games. I like the Sabres to make it a three game win streak tonight at home (and I might be a little bit biased on wanting to bet my team in this game since I’m going to be there), especially with Calgary in the second half of a back to back on the road. I’ll take Buffalo for half a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it with the Flames being the worst offensive team in the NHL.
Wild vs. Hurricanes (9:30)
Not the best cross conference game. The Wild are playing way better now than they did in their start to the season. Coming off a 3-2 overtime win at home against the Golden Knights on Sunday, they’re on a five game point streak with six wins in their last eight games, improving to 9-7-4 on the year. The Hurricanes are 13-5-1 and have been fantastic all season, also with a 6-1-1 record in their last eight games, coming off a 3-1 win in Boston on Monday night. They’ve played excellent on both ends of the ice, and they’re my easy pick to win the East. Carolina won the first game between these teams 4-3 at home a few weeks ago, and I like them to win again on the road tonight. I’ll take the Canes for half a unit. I’d lean the under with pretty good defense and goaltending for both of these teams and a struggling offense for Minnesota, but not quite enough to bet on.
Ducks vs. Bruins (10:00)
Interesting cross conference matchup to end the night, as these teams are both exceeding plenty of expectations in their pretty good starts to the season. The first game between these teams in Boston last month was electric, a 7-5 win for the Ducks on the road, with six goals scored in the third period where Boston scored twice in 25 seconds to tie it up with a little over five minutes to go and the Ducks answering right back to hang onto the win. Anaheim’s been very good this season, leading the Pacific Division with a 12-6-1 record. They’re coming off a 3-2 overtime win at home against Utah on Monday night, where Troy Terry forced overtime with just five seconds left in regulation, ending a three game losing streak on Olen Zellweger’s game winner 1:50 into OT. I thought the Bruins were going to be awful this year, but they’re 12-9 on the season. They have eight wins in their last ten games, coming off a 3-1 loss at home to the Hurricanes on Monday. I like the Ducks to win again at home tonight and I’ll take them for half a unit, but the play I love on this game is the over with both teams playing really well offensively, but not great defensively. I’ll take the over at 6 for a unit. Expecting plenty of goals, I have two player prop parlay on this game as well, taking David Pastrnak and Leo Carlsson to each get a point for a unit and a longer shot one adding Troy Terry and Cutter Gauthier to Pasta and Leo for .6u of a unit at a nice +265.
