Tonight in a pretty boring game that picked up with five goals in the third period, the Sabres lost 4-2 in Pittsburgh.
After a pretty boring start, the Penguins got the first goal of the game with 2:51 left in the first period, with Matt Dumba getting the puck around center ice, carrying it into the zone, and putting it on net, scoring on a pretty shitty goal for UPL to give up. Pretty lousy, low event period for both teams, with just seven total shots on goal.
The Sabres played much better late in the second period, but for the most part, another snooze fest of a period an we head into the second intermission still down 1-0.
Buffalo finally got on the board 7:20 into the third period with a nice shot from Jack Quinn in the slot with Jason Zucker causing traffic in front of the net, tying it up at 1-1. Pittsburgh answered right back just eleven seconds later to get a 2-1 lead on two fantastic individual efforts by Bryan Rust, following his own rebounds in traffic, beating UPL five hole. Kevin Hayes added to the Pens lead tipping in the puck in front past Luukkonen on a beautiful pass from Erik Karlsson with 7:26 left in regulation. The Sabres got back within one with 4:20 to go, on Jack Quinn’s quick shot for his second of the game, right in front, from a nice backhand pass from Jason Zucker behind the net. With 57 seconds left, the Pens took their two goal lead back on an empty netter. Fun third period, but not a great game.
FINAL: Sabres 2, Penguins 4
What a boring game through 40 minutes, but at least the third period was entertaining. Not a great game for the Sabres.
