Tonight the Sabres didn’t play great on the road, losing 4-1 in Winnipeg as the Jets answered back from Monday night’s 5-1 loss in Buffalo.
The Jets got on the board first tonight, 4:24 into the game, with Kyle Connor (who I have with Scheifele to each get a point, so I’m good with that) being left wide open right in front of the net to beat UPL. Lousy defense there for the Sabres. Buffalo kept pushing the offense and got a few nice chances, and with 5:16 left in the first, Jason Zucker tied it up with a tip in off a rebound right in the crease to tie the game up. Not a great period for the Sabres, especially early, but it wasn’t awful as we outshot them 15-8 and out chanced them 7-4 in that first 20 minutes. Gotta pick it up though.
The Jets took the lead back 2:22 into the second period, forcing a turnover that lead to a Tanner Pearson breakaway for an easy goal on Luukkonen. Rasmus Dahlin took a penalty to essentially save a breakaway, and Adam Lowry was awarded a penalty shot, but UPL made the save on it, so no harm no foul there. The Sabres had some beautiful chances late and couldn’t get the puck in the net, and with 1:18 left in the second, Cole Koepke had a nice move in front and made it 3-1 Jets. Buffalo’s had some decent looks in that second period, but we were terrible defensively in that second period.
With 6:36 left in regulation, Mark Scheifele tipped in the puck off the back wall into the back of the net short side to make it 4-1, cashing my prop parlay on him and Connor. Lindy challenged the zone entry for offsides, and was successful on the zone entry 21 seconds before the goal, taking it off the board. It’s such fucking bullshit that this happens in the NHL. If the linesman miss an offsides by an inch and it has nothing to do with a goal, it’s fucking insane that it stops the game for review and takes goals off the board. I mean what the fuck are we doing here? That’s why the no one watches hockey. With 33.8 seconds left, Gabe Vilardi made it 4-1 on the empty net. At least Scheifele had the secondary assist on that.
FINAL: Sabres 1, Jets 4
Pretty terrible game for the Sabres tonight. They couldn’t get shots on goal when they had quality scoring chances, and despite outshooting the Jets, the bulk of those shots came from lousy angles and Comrie was pretty solid in goal for Winnipeg. Defensively I thought Buffalo was brutal tonight, which was really what really was the story of this game.
Annuder loss.
Tank for McKenna.
PS: Thank God that Mark Scheifele got the secondary assist on that empty netter to cash my player prop parlay on this game. I would have lost my fucking mind if after he got his goal ripped off the board 21 seconds after the missed offside, he would’ve been left off the score sheet completely to lose that bet. This offsides reviews shit is unbelievably bad for the sport of hockey and for casual fans, stopping a game for five minutes to review if a missed half of inch call to stop the game for offsides that has nothing to do with the goal getting scored is the absolute WORST. That and bullshit like the phantom hand pass for the Lightning’s tying goal last night are exactly what’s wrong with the NHL and exemplifies why this league, which is so full of talent and fantastic hockey, with young super stars that make every game fun, can’t grow. And now as I’m finishing this blog up we have another one of these fucking offsides reviews after a goal in the Stars game, that takes a Macklin Celebrini goal off the board that would’ve made that game 3-2 with 2:26 to go, robbing the best young superstar in this league of a goal. Figure it the fuck out Gary.
