Second winning night in a row for me yesterday in the NHL, going 4-3 to win 1.18 units. Let’s make it a three day streak and crush tonight’s big ten game slate.
Canadiens vs. Lightning (7:00)
Fun Atlantic Division matchup to start the night. The Habs are coming off a 4-3 loss at home to the Blues on Sunday, but have been pretty good lately, with five wins in their last eight games to improve to 15-10-3 on the season. Led by their young stars, their offense has been very good, but the defense has definitely struggled all season. The Lightning have been solid on the season, but they’re in a slump right now. In the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off their second straight 2-0 shutout, losing in Toronto last night (double loser for me). On the year, Tampa’s offense hasn’t been spectacular but they’re overall a very good team defensively. I’d lean the Bolts bounce back here on the road tonight, but in the second half of a back to back and still without Vasilevskiy for another game or two, I’ll lay off the side here. I’d slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet it. I do like a player prop parlay here and will take Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Nikita Kucherov to each get a point for half a unit.
Senators vs. Devils (7:00)
Interesting matchup here in the East between two good teams that are both struggling quite a bit right now. The Senators, coming off a 2-1 loss at home to the Blues on Saturday, have just one win in their last five games to drop to 13-11-4 on the season. The Devils have come crashing down lately without Jack Hughes, on a five game losing streak, coming off a 4-1 loss in Boston on Saturday. I’d slightly lean the Sens win here at home, but didn’t even consider betting it. The total’s a toss up, and I don’t love any player props here either, so I’ll lay off this game entirely.
Islanders vs. Golden Knights (7:00)
Kind of an interesting cross conference matchup here. The Islanders are playing way above my expectations for them coming into the season, with a 16-11-3 record with fantastic goaltending and defense despite their bad offense. They’re coming off a 4-1 loss on the road to the Panthers on Sunday that ended a three game win streak. The Golden Knights are 14-6-8, and have been up and down so far this season. They’re playing well right now, on a four game win streak, coming off a 3-2 overtime win in MSG against the Rangers on Sunday. In the first game between these teams the Isles won 4-3 in overtime on the road in Vegas last month, a strange ending to that game with the Knights dominating overtime, but not being able to score and then having JG Pageau end it shorthanded. I like the Knights to answer back here and the price is pretty decent, so I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet it. I’ll also parlay Jack Eichel and Mark Stone to each get a point for half a unit.
Flyers vs. Sharks (7:00)
This cross conference matchup isn’t great. The Flyers are having a much better year than I expected, with a 15-9-3 record on the season coming off a close 3-2 loss at home to the Avalanche on Sunday. Philly’s been very good defensively, but their offense hasn’t done much. The Sharks haven’t been great on either end of the ice, but they’re playing better than expected as well. They’re 14-13-3 on the season, coming off a surprising 4-1 win on the road in Carolina on Sunday. I like the Flyers to win here at home, but the price at -180 feels way too expensive, so I’ll stay off it. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it. Macklin Celebrini’s having a phenomenal sophomore season, and I like him to light the lamp tonight, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Penguins vs. Ducks (7:00)
This should be a really fun cross conference game tonight between two teams that have exceeded everyone’s expectations coming into the year. The Penguins have been hot, with a 4-1-1 record in their last six games to improve to 14-7-6 on the season, coming off a 3-2 shootout loss in Dallas on Sunday. Statistically they’ve played well on both ends of the ice. The Ducks are coming off blowing out the Blackhawks 7-1 at home on Sunday, and have been electric to watch, with seven wins in their last eleven games to improve to 18-10-1 on the season. Their young offense has been incredible, but Anaheim’s struggled on the back end, with both of their goalies out injured. The Ducks won the first game between these teams 4-3 at home in the first week of the season. I’d slightly lean Pittsburgh answers back here with a win at home, especially with the goaltending situation, but not enough to bet them. I do like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit. I like a few player props here and I’ll parlay Sidney Crosby, Leo Carlsson, and Cutter Gauthier to each get a point for half a unit, and I’ll individually take Troy Terry to get a point for half a unit on his own.
Hurricanes vs. Blue Jackets (7:30)
Not a great matchup here in the Central. The Hurricanes are a very good team, with a 17-9-2 record coming off a surprising 4-1 loss at home to the Sharks on Sunday in the second half of a back to back. They’ve played well though on both ends of the ice. The Blue Jackets are at the bottom of the division with a 13-10-6 record, coming off two losses in a row over the weekend, getting shut out 2-0 in DC on Sunday. I like the Canes to get a win here at home and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit. I like the over as well, which I’ll take for half a unit. Additionally, I’ll parlay Seth Jarvis, Sebastian Aho, Kirill Marchenko, and Zach Werenski to each get a point for half a unit.
Blues vs. Bruins (8:00)
Lousy cross conference matchup, but it wouldn’t surprise me if this actually ends up being a decent game. The Blues have been horrendous for most of the year, with an 11-12-7 record. They have played pretty well lately though with four wins in their last six games, coming off two road wins in a row over the weekend, beating the Habs 4-3 on Sunday. I thought going into the season that the Bruins would be at the bottom of the league, but they’re far better than that, improving to 17-13 with three wins in their last four game, coming off a 4-1 win at home against the Devils on Saturday. These teams just played in Boston last Thursday with the B’s winning 5-2 at home. I like them to win again here on the road and I’ll take a half unit shot on them at + money. The total’s a complete toss up to me, which I’ll stay off. I’ll also take Morgan Geekie to get a point for half a unit. I considered both betting him to score, and parlaying him with Pastrnak to get a point, but since Pasta’s a game time decision, I’ll just keep it simple.
Jets vs. Stars (8:00)
Not a great game here in the Central with how putrid the Jets are playing lately without Connor Hellebuyck between the pipes. Winnipeg’s a solid team, but they’re struggling without the best goalie in the world, falling to 14-13-1 on the season with just two wins in their last eight games, coming off a 6-2 loss in Edmonton on Saturday. The Stars are the second best team in the league behind Colorado, with a 20-5-5 record, playing fantastic on both ends of the ice. They’re on a three game win streak and ten game point streak, with an impressive 13-1-2 record in their last six games, coming off a 3-2 shootout win at home against the Penguins on Sunday. In the first week of the season, Dallas won the first game between these teams 5-4 on the road. I like them to win again here at home, and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet it. I will also parlay Mikko Rantanen, Jason Robertson, Kyle Connor, and Mark Scheifele to each get a point for half a unit. I though about adding Wyatt Johnston to that, but a five legger being less than +300 isn’t worth it.
Oilers vs. Sabres (9:00)
Horrible cross conference matchup. The Oilers haven’t been great this season. Their offense is obviously very good, but defensively they’ve struggled with some of the worst goaltending in the NHL. Edmonton’s playing better lately, with four wins in their last six games, coming off a 6-2 win at home against the Jets on Saturday. My Sabres are awful, the only team in the Eastern Conference under .500, with an 11-14-4 record, and playing poorly on both ends of the ice. They’re on a three game losing streak and in the second half of a back to back tonight. Last night in Calgary, the Sabres started off slow, and went on to lose 7-4 to the Flames in a pretty lousy game between two bad teams, although the second period was a blast to watch with six goals in that period. Shockingly in the first game between these teams in Buffalo a few weeks ago, the Sabres played great, winning 5-1 at home and leaving Connor McDavid off the score sheet. I don’t see that happening again here. I’ll take the Oilers in regulation for half a unit and their team total over 3.5 for a unit. I like the over in this game too, which I’ll take for a unit. Additionally, I don’t see the two stars not scoring tonight, and I’ll take McDavid and Draisaitl to get a goal for half a unit each.
Predators vs. Avalanche (9:30)
Huge mismatch in the Central to end the night. The Predators have been awful on both ends of the ice, in last place in the NHL with a 10-14-4 record. They’re coming off a 6-3 loss in Carolina on Saturday, but have been playing better with four wins in their last six games. The Avs on the other hand are easily the best team in the NHL with a 21-2-6 record. Coming off a 3-2 win in Philly on Sunday, they’ve gone 14-1-1 in their last 16 games. Colorado won the first game between these teams with a 3-0 shutout on the road a few weeks ago and I like a similar result here tonight. I’ll take them in regulation for 1.5 units. The total’s a toss up to me, so I’ll stay off it, but I’ll also parlay Nathan MacKinnon, Martin Necas, and Cale Makar to each get a point for a unit.
