With the Kings getting scored on late and then losing in OT last night, I went 2-4 on the NHL to lose 2.3 units. Tonight we have a huge 13 game slate, let’s bounce back big!
Obviously with a 13 game slate, my write ups for each game are gonna be a bit shorter here.
Maple Leafs vs. Sharks (7:00)
I wouldn’t say this cross conference matchup’s great by any means, but it should be a pretty fun game. The Leafs have been playing much better lately and I’d lean they win here, but the price at -205 is way too expensive to trust this team. I’d lean the under slightly, but definitely not enough to bet on it. I do like a player prop parlay though which I’ll take for half a unit on William Nylander and Macklin Celebrini to each get a point.
Devils vs. Lightning (7:00)
Interesting matchup here in the East between two solid teams that just ended losing streaks on Tuesday. I like the Bolts to win here on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it, especially considering that both prior games between these teams went over. I considered parlaying Nikita Kucherov to get a point here with the Lightning ML, but it just took it from -135 to +100, which I don’t think’s worth doing, so I’ll just stick with the moneyline.
Islanders vs. Ducks (7:00)
Interesting cross conference matchup here. Both of these teams are playing really well lately. I’d slightly lean the Ducks better offense outplays the Islanders better defense for a win on the road, and I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet either. I do like a few player props here and I’ll parlay Leo Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier (I considered adding Bo Horvat to that) to each get a point for half a unit, and I’ll take Troy Terry to get a point for half a unit.
Flyers vs. Golden Knights (7:00)
This is actually a better matchup with how well the Flyers defense has played than I would have expected going into the season. That being said, Vegas is still the way better team here and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it. I’ll also parlay Jack Eichel and Mark Stone to each get a point for half a unit.
Penguins vs. Canadiens (7:00)
Fun game here in the East. I don’t think either of these teams have been all that great, but they’ve both been good to watch. I’d lean the Penguins better defense gets them the win here, but don’t like it enough to bet on. I do like the over though which I’ll take for half a unit, and I’ll parlay Sidney Crosby, Nick Suzuki, and Cole Caufield to each get a point for half a unit.
Capitals vs. Hurricanes (7:00)
Great game here between the top two teams in the Central Division. I’d slightly lean the Capitals at home as a slight underdog and the under in this game, but neither enough to bet on. I will take a bit of a longer shot parlay here though on Ovi, Tom Wilson, Sebastian Aho, and Seth Jarvis to each get a point for half a unit.
Blue Jackets vs. Senators (7:00)
This isn’t a great game with both of these teams playing pretty poorly, but it should be a fun one to watch. I’d slightly lean the Sens win, but definitely not enough to bet them on the road. I like the over, which I’ll take for half a unit. Since I expect plenty of goals with lousy defenses for both of these teams, I’ll parlay Tim Stutzle, Brady Tkachuk, Kirill Marchenko, and Zach Werenski to each get a point for half a unit.
Predators vs. Blues (8:00)
Terrible Central Division matchup between two of the worst teams in the league. I’d slightly lean the Blues here, but didn’t even consider betting them on the road. At 5.5 I do like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Wild vs. Stars (8:00)
Fantastic matchup here in the Central. Both of these teams have played great hockey. The Stars are the better team though, and I’ll take them for half a unit. I like the under even better with two elite defenses in this game, and I’ll take that for a unit. I’ll also parlay Jason Robertson, Mikko Rantanen, Wyatt Johnston, Kirill Kaprizov, and Matt Boldy to each get a point for half a unit at a nice +391 long shot price.
Jets vs. Bruins (8:00)
Kind of a bad cross conference game here with how much better than expected Boston playing and how terrible the Jets have been since Hellebuyck’s been out. I’d slightly lean the Bruins win here, but I’m not betting them since I think Winnipeg’s the better team here and are at home. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet that either at 6.5. I like some player props here though. I’ll parlay David Pastrnak, Kyle Connor, and Mark Scheifele to each get a point for half a unit, and I’ll individually take Morgan Geekie to get a point for half a unit.
Oilers vs. Red Wings (9:00)
Pretty good cross conference game here, with both of these teams playing much better lately after slumps. Edmonton is coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Sabres at home on Tuesday, where McDavid took over in the third period, tying the game with his second goal of the game with a second left in regulation to erase a 3-0 third period deficit, but they then gave up the game winner on a horrendous defensive effort in OT. With the Red Wings in the second half of a back to back, I’d lean the Oilers win at home here, but the price at -185 is way too expensive. I do like the over, which I’ll take for half a unit. And I’ll parlay Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Dylan Larkin, and Lucas Raymond to each get a point for half a unit. Additionally, I’ll take Alex DeBrincat, who’s been on fire lately to get a point for half a unit too.
Avalanche vs. Panthers (9:30)
Going into the season this would have been a fantastic matchup, but some of the luster of it is off with the Panthers dealing with so many key injuries this year. They’re playing pretty good lately though, in the second half of a back to back tonight and on a three game win streak. The Avs are the best team in the NHL, and undefeated in regulation at home. I like Colorado to win here in a bounce back spot after Tuesday’s game, shockingly losing 4-3 in a shootout in Nashville where Cale Makar hit my big player parlay with his tying goal with eight second left in regulation. The price is pretty high here, so I’m approaching it a bit differently, and I’ll parlay the Avalanche moneyline with Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and Martin Necas to each get a point for a unit. I’ll also take Brad Marchand to get a point for half a unit and MacKinnon to get over 1.5 points for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the under, but didn’t even consider betting the total in this one.
Canucks vs. Sabres (10:00)
Terrible cross conference matchup to end the night between the worst team in the West and the worst team in the East. Both of these teams blow. The Canucks are in the second half of a back to back at home, coming off a 4-0 shutout loss at home to the Red Wings last night, while the Sabres are coming off a 4-3 OT win on Alex Tuch’s game winner in Edmonton on Tuesday that I thought for sure they’d lose when they blew a 3-0 lead in the third period to McDavid and the Oilers. Even in the second half of a back to back, I’d lean Vancouver wins here at home and would slightly lean the under, but I’m not touching this shitty game whatsoever. Go Sabres I guess.
