Bit of a losing night for me on the NHL yesterday, going 6-9 to drop 1.81 units. Let’s bounce back here tonight with a good five game slate!
Panthers vs. Hurricanes (7:00)
Fun matchup here in the East. The Panthers are playing really well right now, on a three game win streak, coming off a 3-2 win at home against the Kings on Wednesday, improving to 18-13-2 on the season. The Hurricanes are the top team in the Eastern Conference with a 22-9-2 record. Coming off a 4-1 win in Nashville on Wednesday night, they’re on a five game win streak with an 8-2 record in their last ten games. I’d lean Carolina wins here on the road, and I’d lean the under, but don’t think either are worth betting. I thought about a few parlays of player props here, but I’m just gonna keep it simple and take Brad Marchand to get a point for half a unit.
Islanders vs. Canucks (7:00)
Pretty lousy cross conference matchup here. The Islanders are playing pretty well this season, with a 19-12-3 record. They’re coming off a 3-2 loss in Detroit on Tuesday night, ending a three game win streak, but they still have six wins in their last eight games. The Canucks are still in last place in the NHL, but come into tonight with two wins in a row, shutting out the Rangers 3-0 on the road on Tuesday. I like the Isles to win here at home and I’ll take them for a unit. I also like the under here, with neither of these offenses being great, and the defense for New York being very good. I’ll take the under for half a unit.
Avalanche vs. Jets (9:00)
Big mismatch in the Central, but let’s be real, every game the Avalanche play besides against the Stars and Wild is a huge mismatch. Colorado’s by far the best team in the NHL, playing the best hockey in the league on both ends of the ice. This team’s elite. They’re 24-2-7 on the season, on a three game win streak and six game point streak coming off a 5-3 win in Seattle on Tuesday night, their first come from behind win in the third period (mainly because they haven’t even trailed in the third period this season besides in their handful of losses) as Nathan MacKinnon took over. The Jets are struggling big time. I thought those issues would be fixed at least a bit with Connor Hellebuyck back, but that hasn’t been the case. Coming off getting shut out 1-0 in St. Louis on Wednesday, Winnipeg has just one win in their last six games and only three in their last 14. I like the Avs to win here pretty easily at home and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit. I’d lean the under slightly, but not enough to bet it. I like several player props in this game too and I’m going to structure those in a few ways. I’ll parlay Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and Martin Necas to each get a point with the Avs moneyline for a unit. Additionally, I’ll parlay those three guys along with Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele to each get a point for half a unit, and I’ll take MacKinnon over 1.5 points for half a unit.
Mammoth vs. Devils (9:00)
Interesting cross conference matchup here that should be pretty fun. The Mammoth are 17-16-3 and have been pretty inconsistent, but have three wins in their last four games, coming off a 4-1 win in Detroit on Wednesday night. The Devils have struggled with a ton of injuries, but have three wins in their last five games, beating the Golden Knights 2-1 in a shootout on the road in an awesome goaltending battle of a game on Wednesday night. I like Utah to win here at home and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Ducks vs. Stars (10:00)
Fun game here to end the night. The Ducks are struggling a bit as of late, with just one win in their last four games, coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Columbus on Tuesday. They’re still a solid 20-12-2 on the season, with a great young offense, but a lousy defense. The Stars are one of the best teams in the NHL on both ends of the ice with a 23-7-5 record. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, capping my night off with a big win as they beat the Sharks 5-3 on the road last night. Anaheim won the matchup between these teams in an incredibly high scoring game, winning 7-5 on the road. Even in the second half of a back to back, I like Dallas to win this one, and I’ll take them for half a unit as a pick’em. I’d lean the over slightly, but not enough to bet on. There’s a bunch of player props I like in this game. I’ll parlay Mikko Rantanen, Jason Robertson, Leo Carlsson, and Wyatt Johnston to each get a point for half a unit. Individually I’ll take Mikko to go over 1.5 points, Troy Terry to get a point, and Cutter Gauthier to get a point for half a unit each. I’ll also take a .2u long shot on all six of these guys to get a point at +650.
