NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 12/30/25

Had a solid night on the NHL yesterday, going 11-9 to win 2.27 units for my third winning day in a row. Let’s keep it rolling on tonight’s five game slate!

Maple Leafs vs. Devils (7:00)

Fun game in the East to get tonight going. The Leafs haven’t had a great season, with a 17-15-6 record, coming off a 3-2 overtime loss in Detroit on Sunday in the second half of a back to back after big wins going into and out of the Christmas break. Their offense has been good, but their defense has sucked. The Devils haven’t played great, on a three game losing streak with just four wins in their last 14 games to fall to 20-16-2 on the year. Jersey won the first game between these teams 5-2 on the road in Toronto in October. I’d lean the Leafs answer with a win at home here, but definitely not enough to trust betting them. I’d also lean the over, but not enough to bet that either. I don’t love any player props in this one, so I’ll lay off this game entirely.

Panthers vs. Canadiens (7:00)

This should be a blast of a game to watch in the Atlantic tonight. The Panthers have been solid lately, with nine wins in their last twelve games improve to 21-15-2 on the season. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, bouncing back from their loss in the Battle of Florida on Saturday with a 5-3 win last night at home against the Capitals. The Habs have been really solid too, with a 20-12-6 record and although their defense has struggled, their offense has been very good. Montreal’s on a six game point streak with a 5-1-3 record in their last nine games, coming off a 5-4 shootout loss in Tampa on Sunday. I’d lean Florida wins here at home, but not enough to bet it with them in the second half of a back to back. I love the over in this game, and I’ll take it for a unit and a half. I’ll also parlay Brad Marchand, Sam Reinhart, Cole Caufield, and Nick Suzuki to each get a point for a unit, and take Marchand to get over 1.5 points for half a unit.

Penguins vs. Hurricanes (7:00)

This Metro Division matchup isn’t great. The Penguins are coming off a 7-3 win in Chicago on Sunday but have been awful lately, with just two wins in their last eleven games, falling to 16-12-9 on the season. The Hurricanes are fantastic. They’re 24-11-3, leading the Eastern Conference, in the second half of a back to back tonight coming off a 3-2 overtime win at home last night against the Rangers (winner for me). Even in the second half of a back to back on the road, I like Carolina here and I’ll take them for a unit. I like the over as well, which I’ll take for half a unit. Additionally, I’ll parlay Sidney Crosby and Sebastian Aho to each get a point for half a unit.

Blackhawks vs. Islanders (8:30)

Awful cross conference game here. The Blackhawks are brutal. Coming off getting stomped 7-3 at home by the Penguins on Sunday after a shocking shootout win in Dallas coming out of the break, Chicago’s 14-18-6 and they’re really struggling without Bedard in the lineup. They’ve been horrible on both ends of the ice. The Islanders haven’t been great offensively, but they’ve been surprisingly really good on the back end. Coming off a bit of a surprising 4-2 loss in Columbus in the second half of a back to back on Sunday, they’re 21-14-4 on the season. I like the Islanders in a bounce back spot here and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d slightly lean the under, but I’m not touching it at 5.5.

Canucks vs. Flyers (10:00)

Such a boring game to end the night. The Canucks have won five of their last seven games, in the second half of a back to back tonight coming off a 3-2 shootout win last night in Seattle. They’re still in dead last in the NHL with a 16-19-3 record and they’ve been awful on both ends of the ice. The Flyers have been shockingly pretty good, with a 19-11-7 record, coming out of the break with a surprising 4-1 loss in Seattle on Sunday (and made me sweat out that under late in the game, but still cashed it). Philly’s been bad offensively, but their defense and goaltending has been very good. They won the first game these teams played 5-2 at home last Monday. I like the Flyers to bounce back here on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. This game should go under with two terrible offenses but a good defense for Philly, but I’d actually lean the over here. That said, I’m not touching the total at 5.5.
