By far my best night of the year on the NHL yesterday, going 21-6 to win 14.27 units! HUGE incredible day!! After a loaded slate last night, we just have three lousy games tonight before another huge card tomorrow, let’s keep rolling for the fourth straight winning night!!
Blackhawks vs. Capitals (8:00)
Not a great cross conference game to start this lousy night of hockey. The Blackhawks have been pretty terrible for the last month and a half, but they’ve been playing well lately, on a four game win streak coming off a 7-3 blowout win at home against the Blues on Wednesday night to improve to 18-18-7 on the year. They’ll get a huge boost tonight with Connor Bedard returning to the lineup. The Capitals are struggling quite a bit lately, with just four wins in their last 14 games to fall to 22-16-6 on the season, coming off a 4-1 loss at home to the Stars on Wednesday. They have played well statistically on both ends of the ice though this year. These teams just played in DC on Saturday, with the Blackhawks pulling off the 3-2 win on the road in a shootout. I don’t see the Caps getting swept by Chicago on the season and I’ll take them to bounce back here on the road, and I’ll take them for a unit. The total at 5.5 is a toss up, so I’ll just stick with Washington on this game. I considered taking Bedard to score in his return, but don’t think it’s worth it in his first game back.
Jets vs. Kings (8:00)
Terrible matchup out West. The Jets are the worst team in the NHL, with just a 15-22-5 record and just three wins in their last 23 games. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, blowing a 3-1 first period lead to lose 4-3 at home to the Oilers last night (big triple winner for me) for their eleventh straight loss. This team’s completely broken, playing terrible on both ends of the ice. The Kings aren’t great either, with a very good defense but an awful offense, falling to 18-14-10 on the season. They have just four wins in their last 13 games, but are on a three game point streak, coming off a 4-3 overtime loss against Macklin Celebrini and the Sharks (which came out of no where late for me to get a double winner on). These teams split their first two games, with the Jets winning 3-2 at home in the first week of the season and LA answering back in November with a 3-0 shutout at home. I like the Kings to win here, especially with Winnipeg in the second half of a back to back. I’ll take them for half unit. Although the stats on these teams and the prior games between them lining up great for an under, I’d lean the over hits in this lousy game. I don’t like it enough to bet it though, even at 5.5. I also like my usual player props on this game, and I’ll parlay Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele to each get a point for half a unit.
Mammoth vs. Blues (9:00)
Another lousy game in the Central to close out the night. The Mammoth are 21-20-3 on the season, with three wins in their last four games, coming off a 3-1 win at home against the Senators on Wednesday. Utah’s defense has been pretty good, but their offense stinks. The Blues have been horrible on both ends of the ice and are one of the worst teams in the league with a 17-19-8 record. After two wins in a row last weekend, they got blown out 7-3 in Chicago on Wednesday night. These teams split their first two games, which both played out completely differently in St. Louis, with the Mammoth winning 7-4 on the road in October and the Blues answering back in November with a 1-0 shutout win for Joel Hofer. I like Utah to win here at home and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
