Losing day to end my hot run on the NHL yesterday, going 15-14 to lose 2.44 units. Not awful with a hell of a week. Let’s bounce back on today’s five game Sunday slate!
Jets vs. Devils (2:00)
What a horrendous cross conference game to start the day. Both of these teams are playing awful hockey right now. The Jets went from winning the President’s Trophy last year to now being dead last in the NHL with a 16-22-5 record. They ended an eleven game losing streak on Friday night with a 5-1 win at home against the Kings, just their fourth win in their last 23 games. The Devils stink too. Coming off a 4-1 loss in Pittsburgh on Thursday, they’re on a three game losing streak with just two wins in their last nine games. Both of these teams have played terrible lately on both ends of the ice this year, and I’m not touching it. I’d give a slight edge to Winnipeg at home, but no shot I’m betting a side in this game. The total’s a complete toss up as well. For my only play on this matchup, I’ll parlay Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele to each get a point for half a unit.
Bruins vs. Penguins (5:00)
This should be a pretty fun game in the Eastern Conference with both of these teams playing pretty well right now. The Bruins put on a show in a matinee at home yesterday afternoon, dominating the Rangers with a 10-2 victory, their fourth win in their last five games after a six game losing streak to improve to 24-19-2 on the season. The Penguins are playing well right now too, having a six game win streak come to an end with a 2-1 loss at home to the Flames last night. I’d slightly lean the Pens bounce back here on the road, but not enough to bet it. I’d also lean the over slightly, but not enough to bet that either. I like a handful of player props though. I’ll parlay Sidney Crosby, David Pastrnak, and Evgeni Malkin to each get a point for a unit. I’ll also take Sid and Pasta to each get 2 points, both individually and parlayed together for half a unit each.
Predators vs. Capitals (7:00)
This cross conference matchup isn’t great. The Preds are in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 3-0 shutout loss at home to the Blackhawks in the only game I didn’t bet at all last night, but they have played pretty well lately, improving to 20-20-4 after their awful start to the season with 14 wins in their last 22 games. The Capitals have been good, but have struggled lately with just five wins in their last 15 games, improving to 23-16-6 with a 5-1 blowout win on the road in Chicago on Friday night. Especially with Nashville in the second half of a back to back, I like the Caps to win here on the road and I’ll take Washington for a unit. I’d slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Mammoth vs. Blue Jackets (7:00)
This should be a fun game, but it’s not a great one. The Mammoth are 22-20-3 on the season, playing pretty well right now with four wins in their last five games, on a three game win streak, coming off a 4-2 win at home against the Blues on Friday night. The Blue Jackets have been at the bottom of the Metro Division with an 18-19-7 record. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, on a four game losing streak after getting shut out 4-0 in Colorado yesterday. With Columbus in the second half of a back to back, I like Utah to get the win tonight at home and I’ll take them for a unit, parlayed with Zach Werenski to get a point. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Sharks vs. Golden Knights (8:00)
Fun game in the Pacific to end the night. The Sharks are playing pretty well right now, on a three game win streak, coming off a come from behind 5-4 win at home against the Stars last night. Although they’ve been awful defensively, Macklin Celebrini’s 70 points and 24 goals is making their offense click at an unreal level. San Jose is now 23-18-3 on the season, with six wins in their last seven games. The Golden Knights lead the Pacific Division with a 20-11-12 record, and after a pretty big slump they’re now on a three game win streak, coming off a 4-2 win last night at home against the Blues. Vegas will look to complete the season sweep against their divisional rivals tonight, having won 4-3 in overtime on the road in October, 4-3 at home in November, and 7-2 at home to head into the Christmas break. I like them to complete the season sweep on the road, as the much more complete team and I’ll take them for half a unit. I like the over in this game as well, which I’ll also take for half a unit. I like my usual player props on this game too. For a unit I’ll parlay Mitch Marner, Jack Eichel, Mark Stone, and Macklin Celebrini to each get a point, and I’ll take Celebrini to get over 1.5 points for half a unit.
