Brutal night for me on the NHL yesterday, finding all kinds of ways to lose, going 4-17 for a 10.54 unit loss. Awful. Let’s bounce back on tonight’s four game slate!
Devils vs. Kraken (7:00)
This matchup isn’t great. The Devils have been awful lately, ending a four game losing streak with just their third win in their last eleven games on Monday night with an impressive 5-2 win in Minnesota. This team’s struggling on both ends of the ice lately, with just seven wins in their last 22 games to drop to 23-21-2 after their decent start to the season. The Kraken have been playing pretty well lately with a 9-1-2 record in their last twelve games to improve to 21-15-8, erasing a 2-0 first period deficit to beat the Rangers 4-2 on the road in MSG on Monday night. Seattle’s been good defensively all season, but have struggled to light the lamp. I like the Kraken to get a win here on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it at 5.5.
Rangers vs. Senators (7:30)
Brutal game here in the East. The Rangers have been awful, especially at home this year. They’re 20-21-6 on the season, but just 5-12-4 at MSG. New York comes into tonight on a four game losing streak, blowing a 2-0 first period at home on Monday night to lose 4-2 to the Kraken. They have just one win in their last eight games and just five in their last 18, struggling all season offensively, but now getting way worse on the back end with Igor Shesterkin and Adam Fox both on the IR. The Senators have had all kinds of problems this year, both on the ice and off it. They’re in last place in the Atlantic with a 21-19-5 record, in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off a 2-1 win at home against the Canucks last night to end a four game losing streak with just their third win in their last ten games. The Rags won the first game between these teams 4-2 on the road in December, and with the Sens in the second half of a back to back, I’d lean New York gets a rare home win tonight in this game, but not a shot I’m betting them. I’d also lean the under at 6.5, but I’m not touching it. I do like some players props, and although I considered adding a combo of Tim Stutzle, Brady Tkachuk, or Shane Pinto to this, I’ll just keep it simple and parlay pretty much the only two bright spots on this Rangers team, Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad to each get a point for half a unit. I’ll also take a half unit shot on Panarin to get over 1.5 points.
Sabres vs. Flyers (7:30)
This should be a great matchup in the East with both of these teams coming off losses and just on the outside and looking in on the very tight race for playoff spots. My Sabres had a three game win streak come to an end on Monday with just their second loss in their last 15 games, losing a tight 4-3 game at home against the Panthers, our first loss on home ice since November. We’re now 24-16-4 on the season, playing pretty well on both ends of the ice recently, especially offensively. The Flyers have played well, two point back from the third playoff spot in the Metro along with their three way tie with Buffalo and Pittsburgh, a point out of the second Wild Card. Philly’s been good defensively all year, but have had their struggles offensively. They come into tonight with a 22-14-8 record, but on a three game losing streak after 5-1 and 7-2 losses on Monday and Saturday at home against the Lightning. These teams split their first two games in December, each winning at home, with a 5-2 Flyers win at home right before the Sabres big win streak and Buffalo answering back with a 5-3 win at home. I like my boys to get a win here and I’ll take them for half a unit. I like the over as well, which I’ll take for a unit. The only player I really like props on in this game is Tage Thompson, but don’t like it enough to bet on him individually and there’s no one else I feel comfortable parlaying it with, so I’ll just stick with the straight bets.
Kings vs. Golden Knights (10:00)
Pretty good Pacific Division matchup to end the night. The Kings have been struggling this year, coming into tonight with just one win in their last four games to drop to 19-16-10 on the season after a 3-1 win at home against the Stars on Monday night (solid late wins for me in that game). Their defense has been good all year, but their offense has been awful. The Golden Knights seem to have finally turned it around, on a four game win streak, coming off a 7-2 win in San Jose on Sunday to improve to 21-11-12 on the year, tied with the Oilers at the top of the Pacific. On opening night of the season in Vegas, these teams went to a shootout with the Kings winning 6-5 on the road. I think the Knights are the far more complete team here and I like them to answer back on the road, which I’ll take for a unit. I’d slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet it. I’ll also take two player prop parlay and take Jack Eichel and Mark Stone to each get a point for a unit, and add Mitch Marner to that for another half a unit.
