Tonight the Sabres didn’t play their best hockey, but in a nice bounce back effort beat the Flyers 5-2 at home on their limited chances, getting back in a playoff spot!
The Sabres first the first goal of the game, 9:30 into it on the power play as Rasmus Dahlin came around the circle and ripped it through traffic to put Buffalo up 1-0. Mattias Samuelsson made it 2-0 with 4:47 to go in the first, with the Flyers stealing the puck, the Josh Doan stealing it back to getting it to Ostland, who set up Sammy for the rip in the slot. Very good period on both ends of the ice for the Sabres, especially after the first few minutes of the game, and during those first few minutes when Philly got some solid chances early, UPL came up with some huge saves.
Jack Quinn gave the Sabres a 3-0 lead on just their sixth shot of the games, 4:22 into the second period, with Zach Benson getting a nice chance in front, the slow rebound getting controlled by Ryan McLeod behind the goal for a simple tip in for Quinn. Owen Tippett made it 3-1, getting the Flyers on the board jumping on a turnover in the neutral zone, then scoring on a beautiful toe drag. Dahlin got the Sabres back up by three with his second power play goal of the night, walking in the slot and ripping it right under the glove past a screened Ersson to make it a 4-1 game. Another solid period for Buffalo.
Trevor Zegras made it a 4-2 game, with Travis Konecny putting the puck through the crease, redirecting the puck off his skate and into the net to get the Flyers back with two. With a six on four power play for the Flyers, the Sabres Alex Tuch caused a turnover at the blue line, going down the ice with Ryan McLeod to cap off the game (and hit my over) on an empty netter to win it 5-2.
FINAL: Sabres 5, Flyers 2
The Sabres didn’t play their best hockey tonight, but they controlled the game throughout, getting outshot 22-14 but capitalizing when they needed to and playing well defensively to get our 14th win in their last 16 games, a nice bounce back from Monday’s loss. Back in the second Wild Card spot!
Back at it again tomorrow night when the Habs come to town for 05-06 night!
