Really nice bounce back day for me on the NHL yesterday, going 15-7 to win 6.71 units. Much needed. Today we have a decent six game Sunday slate, let’s get back to winning!
Maple Leafs vs. Avalanche (1:30)
Fun early cross conference game to get the slate started. These teams are both not playing their best hockey as of late. The Leafs are on the outside looking in on the playoff race in the East, with a 24-18-9 record. Coming off a 6-3 loss at home to the Golden Knights on Friday in Mitch Marner’s return to Toronto, they’re on a three game losing streak with just one win in their last six games after they had gone on an 8-0-2 stretch before that. The Avalanche are struggling lately too, which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. They’re still the best team in the NHL, but they come into tonight after two home losses in a row, and have just one win in their last five games, losing 7-3 at home to the Flyers on Friday. Toronto won the first game between these teams a couple weeks ago in Denver, with William Nylander scoring in overtime to win it 4-3. I like the Avs to get right and out of these struggles today on the road and I’ll take them for a unit. I like the over as well, which I’ll take for a unit. I’m also taking my usual player props here. I’ll parlay Auston Matthews, Nathan MacKinnon, Martin Necas, and Cale Makar to each get a point for a unit, and I’ll take the Nate Dawg to get over 1.5 points for a unit. I’ll also take Marty Necas to get over 1.5 points for half a unit, which I don’t why I haven’t been betting too.
Kraken vs. Devils (3:00)
Pretty boring cross conference matchup here. The Kraken are struggling right now, falling out of a Wild Card spot in the West with a 22-19-9 record. Coming off a 4-2 loss at home to the Ducks on Friday, they have just one win in their last six games. On the season, they’ve been very good defensively, but their offense has sucked all year, but as of late, they can’t keep the puck out of the net either. The Devils seem to have turned something around lately. They’re still on the outside looking in on a playoff spot with a 27-22-2 record, but come into today on a three game win streak off a 5-4 win in Vancouver on Friday and have five wins in their last six games. These teams just played two weeks ago with the Devils getting a 3-2 win in overtime at home. I’d slightly lean they win again here on the road, but not enough to bet them. I do like the under though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Senators vs. Golden Knights (5:00)
Pretty big mismatch in this cross conference game. The Senators have been awful. They’re in last place in the Atlantic Division with a 23-21-7 record, in the second half of a back to back today, coming off a 4-1 loss last night in Carolina and have just three wins in their last eleven games, with all three of those wins coming against bad teams. The Golden Knights have been pretty solid, leading the Pacific Division with a 25-13-12 record. They’re coming off a big 6-3 win on the road against the Leafs on Friday in Marner’s big return to Toronto and have eight wins in their last ten games. When these teams played in Vegas back in November, that game went to OT with the Sens winning 4-3 in a shootout on the road. I like the Knights to answer back with a win on the road today and I’ll take them for 1.5 units. I like the over as well, which I’ll take for a unit. I like a handful of player props here too. I’ll parlay Jack Eichel, Mark Stone, Mitch Marner, Brady Tkachuk, and Tim Stutzle to each get a point for half a unit, and I’ll take Jack to get over 1.5 points for half a unit.
Canucks vs. Penguins (6:00)
Huge mismatch again here for another cross conference game. The Canucks are the worst team in the NHL with a 17-29-5, playing awful on both ends of the ice. They have just one win in their last 13 games. The Penguins on the other hand have been fantastic, in second place in the Metro with a 25-14-11 record. Coming off a 6-2 win in Edmonton on Thursday, they’re on a three game win streak with a 10-2-2 record in their last 14 games. The first game between these teams in Pittsburgh back in October was a blowout, with the Pens winning 5-1 at home. I like them to win in a blowout again here. I’ll take the Penguins moneyline for 1.5 units and add another half a unit on the puck line at a nice price. I’ll also parlay Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin to each get a point for a unit, and I’ll take Sid to get over 1.5 points for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Blackhawks vs. Panthers (7:00)
Not the best cross conference matchup here. The Blackhawks have been pretty bad this year, with a 21-22-8 record, especially struggling offensively. They’re coming off taking the Lightning to a shootout on Friday (a big loss for me since I had Tampa in regulation), losing 2-1 at home. The Panthers have been playing pretty good lately, getting Matthew Tkachuk and Brad Marchand back in the lineup this week. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off Marchand’s overtime game winner to beat the Wild 4-3 last night on the road, and they’ve now won four of their last six games to improve to 27-20-3 on the season, still five points back from the Bruins for the second Wild Card spot in the East. In the first game of the season as they lifted their second Stanley Cup banner to the rafters on opening night, the Blackhawks hung in that game, but Florida ultimately won 3-2 at home. I like them to win again here on the road, even in the second half of a back to back, and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it. I’ll also parlay Connor Bedard, Sam Reinhart, Brad Marchand, and Matthew Tkachuk to each get a point for half a unit. Additionally, I’ll take Marchy to get over 1.5 points for half a unit.
Flames vs. Ducks (8:00)
Kind of a boring Pacific revision matchup to end the night. The Flames are quite lousy, on a three game losing streak coming off a 3-1 loss at home to the Capitals on Friday to fall to 21-25-5 on the season. Their defense and goaltending has been good, but their offense sucks. The Ducks are dealing with a bunch of injuries to their young core, but have been good. They’re in third place in this weak division with a 27-21-3 record, and are rolling right now, on a six game win streak, coming off a 4-2 win in Seattle on Friday. Their offense has been good this season, where their defense and goaltending has struggled, but they have been playing surprisingly well on the back end in this win streak. I like the Ducks to stay hot here get a win here on the road and I’ll take them for half a unit. I was surprised the total on this game being 6.5, and I like the under. I’ll take it for half a unit.
