The Sabres started slow tonight, but picked it up to beat the Predators 3-2 at home and extend the win streak to six in a row!
Scoreless first period as the Sabres got outshot 6-2, but both teams had some chances. Buffalo did look pretty sloppy on the back end through that first 20 minutes though, getting kind of lucky that the Preds didn’t score.
Nashville got on the board first, 1:17 into the second period with the puck going through the ice from down low to Zachary L’Heureux cutting to the circle and ripping it past Lyon. Tage Thompson tied it up with 7:21 to go in the second with some nice rotations on both sides of the ice for the Sabres, passing it around looking for a lane until Tage fired it home. Just 1:26 later, Jason Zucker followed a shot that was trickling in the crease from Jack Quinn on a beautiful pass from Dahlin to give the Sabres their first lead of the game, making it 2-1 Buffalo. Slow start again for the second period for Buffalo, but they got rolling and played far better as the period went on, getting awarded with the lead.
Just 16 seconds into the third period, off the opening faceoff, with a very nice back check from Doan on the wall, he fed it to Josh Norris down low and then went right to the net to get the pass and bury it past Soros to make it 3-1 Sabres early in the third. The Preds got back within one with 3:52 left in regulation, with Matthew Wood deflecting in a shot from Roman Josi at the point to make it 3-2. The Sabres held on to get the win and make it six in a row!
FINAL: Sabres 3, Predators 2
After the poor start in the first period, the Sabres rolled as they scored twice in a minute and a half to get the lead and then held on to hold the lead and get the win. Six in a row, and temporarily in first place alone in the Atlantic Division. Lyon was fantastic in goal. Big win!
Right back at it tomorrow night with a huge game to take first place in the Atlantic with the Lightning coming to town (who are up 4-1 after the first period against the Leafs tonight, so I’m assuming they’ll stay tied with us up top).
