Sabres vs. Capitals: 3/12/26 – Game Reactions/Recap

The Sabres came out looking dominant in the first period, but got so sloppy and fell apart late to lose 2-1 at home to the Caps tonight, ending our eight game win streak.

Sam Carrick got his first goal as a Sabres, sneaking in to tip in the shot on an absolutely beautiful backhand pass by Beck Malenstyn, 6:02 into the game. Really fun power play to end the dominant first period with Tage taking four straight one time bombs to end the period, but not scoring. We out-chanced the Caps 8-2 and outshot them 15-3.

The Caps tied it up 2:14 into the second period with Ryan Leonard going on a two on one and burying it. Terrible turnover and defense by Logan Stanley on that one. Not the best period, going into the second intermission tied up.

The Sabres looked sloppy all third period and with 1:33 to go, Protas threw the puck to the front for Jakob Chychrun to give the Caps the lead. And with that, the eight game win streak comes to an end.

FINAL: Sabres 1, Capitals 2

We outshot the Caps 30-22, but after the first period that the Sabres looked dominant in, we just looked so sloppy after that to take the loss. Not great.

Gotta bounce back on Saturday against the pathetic Leafs.
