Kind of a boring late night game out west in Vegas for the Sabres tonight, but with a spectacular night in goal from Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen got the 2-0 shutout win to tie Carolina for first in the East.
Both teams had plenty of chances to score early in the first, and with 1:58 left in the period, Josh Doan gave the Sabres the first goal of the game, as Adin Hill went behind the net, misplayed the puck leading to a turnover and as he went back to the crease, Doan threw it at Hill’s pad and it bounced into the net behind him. Smart play from Doan. Fun period of hockey with penalty of action, as Vegas outshot us 12-10 and out chanced us 8-6, but we have the lead thanks to Hill.
Kind of a boring second period, with no goals as we held onto the 1-0 lead. Not a ton of action. UPL was fantastic though, making some huge saves with the Sabres playing well defensively.
With 57.6 seconds to go, Josh Norris scored on the empty net after some huge saves from UPL with Vegas looking great on the six on five, and capped off the game.
FINAL: Sabres, Golden Knights
Pretty boring game, but what a game for UPL. He made 27 saves on every shot he saw for his first shutout of the season. Both teams had some solid chances with the Knights getting 22 chances to our 12, but there wasn’t a ton of action. But hey, we get the win in shutout fashion to start this road trip and tie Carolina, who lost tonight in Columbus, for first place in the Eastern Conference!
