Last night wasn’t great on the NHL for me after a hot start, going 7-13 to lose 5.5 units. Let’s bounce back on today’s six game Sunday slate.
Rangers vs. Panthers (1:00)
Lousy early game to start the day in the East. The Rangers have been brutal, the worst team in the East with a 29-35-9 record, and they’re just 10-18-7 at home in MSG. The Rags ended a six game losing streak on Friday night with a 6-1 win at home against the Blackhawks. The Panthers after winning the Cup the last two years are done this year cause of all their injuries. They’re in last place in the Atlantic with a 35-34-3 record, in the second half of a back to back after a 5-2 loss on Long Island last night, and they have just one win in their last four games. New York won the first game between these teams 5-1 on the road in January. I’d lean even in the second half of a back to back, the Panthers answer back here, but I’m not touching it. I’d slightly lean the over, but not enough to bet that either. My only play here on the early games will be half a unit parlay on Mika Zibanejad and Matthew Tkachuk to each get a point.
Lightning vs. Predators (5:00)
This cross conference matchup isn’t great with both of these teams in the second half of a back to back. The Lightning are two points back from the Sabres and Hurricanes for first place in the Eastern Conference. They come into tonight on a seven game point streak, with a 5-0-2 record in that span, coming off a 4-2 win at home against the Senators in a matinee yesterday. The Preds haven’t been great, but are somehow in the second Wild Card spot in the West with a 34-30-9 record, a point ahead of the Kraken. They’re coming off two losses in a row, in a back to back as well, losing 4-1 at home to the Habs last night. Tampa won the first game between these teams 5-2 on the road in October. I like them to win again here at home and I’ll take them in regulation for a unit. I like the over as well, which I’ll take for half a unit. I’ll also parlay Brandon Hagel and Jake Guentzel to each get a point for half a unit.
Hurricanes vs. Canadiens (5:00)
This should be a very fun game here in the East The Hurricanes are coming off a 5-2 win at home against the Devils yesterday and lead the Eastern Conference with a 46-20-6 record. They’ve gone 18-4-2 in their last 24 games. The Habs are in third place in the Atlantic, on a four game win streak coming off a 4-1 win in Nashville last night. Montreal won both previous games between these teams, 7-5 on the road on New Year’s Day and then 5-2 at home on Tuesday. I like the Canes to avoid the season sweep here and I’ll take them for a unit. I love the over here too, which I’ll also take for a unit. I’ll also throw in a half unit parlay on Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Sebastian Aho, and Seth Jarvis to each get a point for half a unit. Along with that, I’ll take Juraj Slafkovsky to get a point for half a unit.
Blue Jackets vs. Bruins (5:00)
Fun game here between the two Eastern Conference Wild Card teams, both in the second half of back to backs. The Blue Jackets are in the second Wild Card spot with a 38-24-11 record, a point behind the Penguins for third in the Metro Division. They have just one win in their last four games though after going on a tear, losing 3-2 at home to the Sharks yesterday. The Bruins have won four of their last five games, coming off a 6-3 win at home against the Wild on Saturday, beating the Wild 6-3 at home yesterday. Boston won the first game between these teams 4-2 at home a month ago. I’d slightly lean they win again here on the road, but I’m not touching the side or the total in this game. I’ll parlay David Pastrnak, Zach Werenski, and Kirill Marchenko to each get a point for half a unit.
Devils vs. Blackhawks (7:00)
Kind of a bad cross conference matchup. The Devils are playing much better lately, with nine wins in their last 13 games, coming off a 5-2 loss in Carolina yesterday. They’re still out of the playoffs though with a 37-33-2 record. The Blackhawks have been brutal, in last place in the Central with a 27-33-13 record. Coming off a 6-1 loss on the road to the Rangers on Friday, they’ve won just two of their last eight games. The first game between the teams went to overtime back in November in Chicago, with the Devils winning 4-3 on the road. Even in the second half of a back to back, I like them to win again here and I’ll parlay their moneyline with Jack Hughes to get a point for half a unit. I’d lean the over since both of these defenses are terrible, but I’m not touching it.
Flyers vs. Stars (7:00)
Big mismatch in this cross conference game to end the night, but you couldn’t tell based on how they’re playing right now. The Flyers aren’t dead yet, playing quite well lately, now three points back from Columbus for the second Wild Card spot in the East with a 36-24-12 record. Coming off a 5-3 win in Detroit last night, they’ve gone 11-3-1 in their last 15 games. The Stars ended a four game losing streak with a 6-3 win in Pittsburgh last night and are the second best team in the NHL with a 44-18-11 record. Dallas won the first game between these teams 5-1 back home in November. I like them to win again here and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d lean the over at 5.5, but not enough to bet it. I’ll also parlay Mikko Rantanen, Jason Robertson, and Wyatt Johnston to each get a point for half a unit.
