Sabres vs. Blue Jackets: 4/9/26 – Game Reactions/Recap

Tonight started off choppy and a bit sloppy for both teams, but with a great third period for Buffalo and a fantastic first career shutout for Colton Ellis, the Sabres beat the Blue Jackets 5-0 at home to keep first place alone in the Atlantic Division.

After a slow start with very sloppy play for both teams, with 6:19 left in the first, Peyton Krebs broke the tie, putting the Sabres on the board first, getting the net open on a rebound on a shot from Josh Norris. Wouldn’t say that was a great period, but hey, we have the lead.

The Sabres had some decent chances, but didn’t play great in the slightest in the scoreless second period.

With 12:41 left in regulation, Josh Doan gave the Sabres a two goal lead in transition on a quick shot. Much needed. Jack Quinn added to the lead to make it 3-0 with 6:39 to go, top shelf on a fantastic play in front of the net with 6:39 left and 15 seconds later, Josh Doan got his second of the night to make 4-0. With 3:05 left, Rasmus Dahlin put it in the empty net and really capped off the game that was already overcast that point. Fantastic third period.

Final: Sabres 5, Blue Jackets 0

I was there tonight and through the first two periods of this game, it didn’t look great. I thought both teams were quite sloppy and played a choppy game, not really generating much and not really even getting lanes to shoot in (god I hate when people yell shoot, drives me fucking nuts). But the third period was electric, pouring it on to solidify the win and keep first place in the Atlantic. I did think Colton Ellis was fantastic in his first career shutout, making some really key saves at points in this game and saved all 37 shots he saw. Great game for him.

Two more games to go, let’s win the Atlantic!!!
