Least Stressful $800 I’ve Ever Made

Last night was a pretty small NHL slate. Only three games, Sabres vs. Montreal, Flyers vs. Devils and Vancouver vs. LA. I normally don’t bet on my hometown Buffalo Sabres but the other two games of course I was all over. I know it’s early in the season and getting fancy isn’t the smartest move but fuck it, I decide to do a $200 reverse of Flyers moneyline at -130 with the Canucks moneyline at -160. Pays $800 if both teams win with some more risk if I split them rather than if I just bet them both separately.

Philly starts the night off at 7:30 with the stud kid Carter Hart in net vs. the Devils, who are a team I think are gonna disappoint a lot of people this year with huge expectations that they’re going to be great after they “won the offseason”. Pretty quiet first period with the score 0-0 after 1. Halfway through the second period in a still scoreless game, the Flyers go on the power play and Ivan Provorov gets one in the net to make it 1-0 Philly. Carter Hart made some impressive saves including on a New Jersey 5-3 power play to keep the score 1-0 Flyers after 2 periods of play. Still anyone’s game at this point through 40 minutes. 33 seconds into 3rd period and Kevin Hayes makes it 2-0 Flyers on the power play. Doesn’t take much longer and 24 seconds later, its 3-0 Flyers from Sean Couturier. Game’s pretty much over at this point and about 10 minutes later, Travis Konecny makes it 4-0 sealing off the game. Nice easy 4-0 Flyers win for Carter Hart’s first career shutout.

Since I formatted my bets as a pretty big reverse I was planning on hedging at least a bit of the Vancouver game after the Flyers won, but obviously I forgot. Whatever, I guess I’m riding out the late game on the Canucks vs. the LA Kings. That’s gambling. LA was one of the shittiest teams in hockey last year and I think Vancouver improved a decent amount over the offseason, so I like my chances anyway.

In the first period, Quinn Hughes, brother of the #1 overall draft pick, Jack Hughes, gets his first career goal making it 1-0 Canucks less than 5 minutes into the game. Less than a minute later, Brandon Sutter, 2-0 Vancouver. Loving this game already.  A couple minutes into the second period, last year’s Calder Trophy winner, Elias Petterson makes it 3-0 Vancouver and I’m already cruising to a nice winner on this reverse. Tyler Toffoli puts one past Jacob Markstrom keeping the Kings in the game at 3-1 before JT Miller answers back. 4-1 and I’m a lot more comfortable with winning this. In the third period, Sean Walker makes it 4-2 before Vancouver blows the game open with four straight goals to finish the game in an 8-2 blowout over LA. Cash that game too, easy!

Bangggg cash both legs of my reverse for probably the easiest $800 I’ve ever won on hockey, especially this early in the season. I’m sure I’ll inevitably lose it all back pretty quickly. This shit’s a grind.
