The puck dropped last night on the NHL season. I started off the season pretty well going 3-1 on my picks for a 1.2 unit profit. The Flyers got a nice 6-3 win on a huge 3rd period. Tampa shit pumped the Blackhawks 5-1 making that an easy double winner. The Blackhawks suck and I’m gonna bet against them almost every night. The Avs lost 4-1 which was disappointing that they weren’t able to get the puck in the net. Let’s keep the winning riding on the huge slate we’ve got tonight.
Sabres vs. Capitals (7:00)
Let’s start off with my team, the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres have sucked for a fucking decade now. And even though the Eich Daddy and newly added Taylor Hall are some of the most talented players in hockey, you can’t win with two players. I expect this trend of losing every season to continue. I’m not touching this game.
Devils vs. Bruins (7:00)
Last year the Bruins were one of the best teams in the East, the Devils were the second worst in hockey. I think this trend continues and I’m taking Bruins ML for a half unit and puck line for a half unit.
Rangers vs. Islanders (7:00)
Both teams in New York City shows signs of greatness and some lows throughout last season. Both have a bunch of young talent and I think they both make the playoffs this year. In the 4 games they played last year, the Rangers won 3 of 4 but like the line shows at -110, this game is a coin toss. Rangers last year were typically an over team, Isles were an under team with one of the best defenses in the league. I’m not touching this game.
Hurricanes vs. Red Wings (7:30)
Carolina surprised a lot of people last year being as good of a team as they are. Detroit was by far the worst team in hockey. I think they made some good moves to prepare them for the future but they’re still not gonna be good. Carolina swept the season series last year pretty easily 3-0. Half a unit each, Carolina ML and PL.
Predators vs. Blue Jackets (8:00)
I like Nashville but they’re not the same team they were when they made their run to the cup a few years ago. The Blue Jackets overachieved last year and I think have a great season this year. I’d lean Columbus and the over here but I’m not betting it. Their only matchup last year, the Preds won 4-3. Interested to see how this game goes.
Jets vs. Flames (8:00)
The Flames had a great year last year and have the pieces to be successful for the next few years. The Jets are alright but not great. Last year, these teams met in the play in round and Calgary won that series 3-1. I’m taking the Flames for a unit tonight. Last year only one of the 5 games these teams met in went over, so I’m not touching it (life’s too short to bet the under).
Oilers vs. Canucks (9:00)
Last night, Vancouver had a solid start to their season beating Edmonton 5-3. Vancouver did a pretty good job controlling the game. We’ll see how the first back to back of the season goes but I’m not betting this game.
Coyotes vs. Sharks (9:00)
Darcy Kuemper and the Yotes surprised a lot of people in the playoffs last year and had a solid season out of the Pacific Division behind Vegas and Edmonton. The Sharks had a pretty shitty season after coming so close to going to the Cup two years ago, the year that the Blues won it. I’d lean Arizona and the over here but I’m not betting either.
Golden Knights vs. Ducks (10:00)
The Vegas Golden Knights have been a betting darling for me since they joined the league. I think Vegas is a top contender to win the cup this year, just like I did last year. The Ducks sucked last year and I don’t expect that to change much this season. Half unit each, Vegas ML and PL.
Kings vs. Wild (10:00)
I guess I’d lean the Wild here but who knows what happens between these games. Not touching this.
.5u Bruins ML (-185)
.5u Bruins -1.5 (+150)
.5u Hurricanes ML (-220)
.5u Hurricanes -1.5 (+125)
1u Flames (-120)
.5u Golden Knights (-235)
.5u Golden Knights -1.5 (+110)
Record: 3-1 (+1.2 units)
