NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 1/17/21

My picks fucking sucked yesterday, somehow going 0-7 (but the Bills are going to the AFC Championship so I don’t even really care). No more parlays this early in the season, I’m going to be limiting myself to max 1u on a game and probably pick less games. Today’s a very light two game slate with one game at noon and one at 7. It’d be nice if the NHL could start scheduling games more evenly rather than tens games one day and two the next. But regardless, here’s my breakdowns of today’s two games.

Penguins vs. Capitals (12:00)

Sid vs. Ovi. These games are always fantastic every year between this rivalry. The Caps are 2-0 beating the shitty Sabres in both games they played and the Pens are 0-2 getting beat by the Flyers. I’m not really putting any stock into any of those games when looking at this matchup. Last year, the Caps were 2-1 in games against Pittsburgh, all going over. I’m staying off this game betting wise as it should be a great game that goes either way.

Panthers vs. Blackhawks (7:00)

The Florida Panthers, who were scheduled to open their season against Dallas haven’t played a game yet due to the postponed games with the Stars COVID issues. Florida wasn’t the best team last year finishing 4th in the Atlantic and getting bounced in the 5 game qualifying round to the Isles in 4 games. Last season was Florida’s first under coach Joel Quenneville and with goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky (who just returned to the team Wednesday after being “unfit to play”. Florida already confirmed that backup Chris Driedger is starting in net for them tonight, who was 7-2-1 last year including recording a shutout. The Blackhawks blow. We saw how easily Tampa crushed them both games this year and even with Driedger in net, I’m betting a unit on Florida ML at -150.

1u Florida ML (-150)

Record: 11-12 (-5.03 units)
