Yesterday’s games were all over the place but I ended up going 4-2 and completely breaking even on the day. I started off the day well, hitting both early games, Florida and the Bruins/Isles over, my Sabres shocked me crushing the Flyers, the Oilers just might not be good and then Vegas came through clutch to end the night with 3 unanswered goals to cash the puck line with 12 seconds to go. Today we’ve got a 7 game slate and I’m breaking it all down.
Rangers vs. Devils (7:00)
The Devils opened the season with back to back games against the Bruins. With low expectations from last year, they played pretty well and great defensively beating the B’s with a second left in overtime 2-1 and losing to them in a shootout 3-2. Both solid performances and Mackenzie Blackwood looked great in net. The Rangers split their two games with the Isles, losing 4-0 and winning 5-0. I think these rivals keep this game close and although the Rangers should win it, I’m not betting this game.
Flyers vs. Sabres (7:00)
What the fuck happened last night. I expected the opposite score of this game last night, didn’t see the Sabres blowing out the Flyers 6-1. Maybe I underestimated my Sabres this season. I still don’t really think this lasts and I do think the Flyers bounce back and win. Of the 5 games that these two teams have been in this season, only one of those games went under (Sabres vs. Caps 2-1) so I’m taking the over here. The Sabres showed last night that they could score even against a good goalie like Carter Hart and both of Philly’s games against Pittsburgh went over with the Flyers scoring 5 and 6 goals against the Pens. The Flyers are starting Brian Elliot tonight instead of Hart, so the Sabres should be able to score even if they lose. Over 6 for a unit.
Panthers vs. Blackhawks (7:00)
The Blackhawks clearly have the worst goaltending and defense in hockey. I’m gonna keep betting against them every day. Florida won easily 5-2 in their first game of the season against the Blackhawks and today they have Sergei Bobrovsky in goal. I also like the Panthers team total over 3.5, so I’m going to bet half a unit each on the Florida ML and TT over.
Penguins vs. Capitals (7:00)
As predicted, the Pens and Caps had a great game with Pitt winning 4-3 in a shootout to get their first win of the season. Both backup goalies are starting tonight, who both have had pretty good games this season. I could see this game going either way so I’m not touching this game.
Senators vs. Jets (7:00)
The Sens opened the season looking way better than last year and could be a pesky team this year. They split their two games against the Leafs, beating them in their opener 5-3 (this cost me money) and losing 3-2 (also costed me on the over). The Jets are 1-1 with a win against Calgary and a loss to the Leafs. I think the Sens win but I’m not betting it.
Red Wings vs. Blue Jackets (7:30)
The Red Wings suck but they look way less shitty than they did last year when they came dead last. They hung around in there game with Columbus yesterday (still a win either way) and scored with around a minute left to make me sweat out this game. I’m going back to Columbus and betting them again tonight though, a unit on the ML.
Kings vs. Avalanche (10:00)
The Avs disappointed in their season opener, losing to the Blues 4-1. But that really pissed them off as they came back their next game and blew out St. Louis 8-0. The Kings suck, losing both their games to the Wild in overtime. Colorado’s one of the best teams in hockey and is gonna blow out the Kings tonight. Half unit each on Colorado ML (I debated between this or in regulation at -160, but I’d rather risk the ML that probably won’t matter anyway) and puck line.
Picks
1u Flyers/Sabres over 6 (-110)
.5u Panthers ML (-160)
.5u Panthers TT over 3.5 (-120)
1u Columbus ML (-170)
.5u Colorado ML (-235)
.5u Colorado -1.5 (+105)
Record: 16-14 (-4.03 units)
