There was a single NHL game last night, Blue Jackets vs. Blackhawks that got me a nice win with Columbus winning 2-1. Today obviously there’s a huge slate of games to follow it up. Time to keep the winning rolling!
Sabres vs. Devils (1:00)
The Sabres and Devils have both overachieved so far this season with low expectations coming in. The Sabres have hung around in their games and have the ability to score. The Devils are the opposite with good defense and surprisingly great goaltending. Lindy Ruff returns home to Buffalo today, this time as the new head coach of the NJ Devils. I’m not betting this game, but I think there’s some value in the Devils with the Sabres being a pretty big (for them) -155 favorite. I’d also slightly lean the under.
Rangers vs. Penguins (7:00)
The Rangers have been underachieving this year and the Penguins are a pretty good team. Even with DeSmith in goal for the Pens, I think they have an edge over the Rangers and this season the Penguins have beat the Rangers in both games between the two teams. Pittsburgh’s pretty cheap tonight at -115 so I’m gong to take that for half a unit. I also think it goes over but I’m not betting that.
Flyers vs. Islanders (7:00)
A rematch between last year’s playoff series in the bubble. The Islanders have one of the best defenses in hockey and the Flyers have one of the best offenses in the East. With both starters in goal, I could see this game going either way and don’t see any side worth betting. This should be a great game though.
Capitals vs. Bruins (7:00)
The Bruins and Caps are both very good teams in the East. The Capitals still haven’t lost in regulation this year. If the game stays low scoring, I’d think the Bruins win it where if it goes over its likely a Caps win. Not betting this game.
Hurricanes vs. Stars (7:00)
Both teams are very good defensively and haven’t played many games due to COVID issues. With Khudobin back in net and the Stars coming off a loss with their rookie backup getting his first start and Mrazek in net for Carolina, I’m taking the under for a unit. I think the price is wrong here with Carolina being the favorite, so I’m taking Dallas for half a unit.
Lightning vs. Predators (7:00)
The Nashville Predators struggled to beat Chicago two games in a row and it took more than 60 minutes in both games, and Chicago’s bad. Tampa’s coming off an overtime loss to Carolina in a double shutout. I think Tampa bounces back tonight with a win with Vasilvskiy confirmed in net. Tampa for half a unit.
Red Wings vs. Panthers (7:00)
Detroit’s one of the worst teams in hockey and Florida’s not bad but they haven’t played enough games against decent teams yet to really know what they’re made of. At -165, I’m gonna lay off Florida this game but they definitely should win.
Canadiens vs. Flames (7:00)
Montreal hasn’t lost in regulation yet this year and they look really good. Calgary hasn’t been great but they have talent. In their only matchup this year, Montreal won 4-2. Tonight Jake Allen’s getting the start in net for Montreal instead of Carey Price and with that I’d rather lay off this game.
Oilers vs. Maple Leafs (7:00)
Toronto’s leading the North division and has looked awesome this year (although when I bet them, they lose). Edmonton’s got two of the best players in hockey in McDavid and Draisaitl so you gotta respect them. Toronto’s 2-1 against the Oilers this year and I think Toronto wins this game but not enough to bet on it.
Wild vs. Avalanche (8:00)
Colorado’s been underachieving in my book this year, losing games they should be winning easily as one of the favorites to win the Cup. Minnesota’s had a lot of bad matchups to start the year and aren’t as good as their record shows. Colorado should win this game and at -165 I’ll take them for half a unit.
Ducks vs. Blues (9:00)
The Ducks are a bad team, the Blues are a good team. Jordan Binnington’s already confirmed in net and I think there’s good value to St. Louis on the road at -160 tonight (they already beat Vegas and Colorado on the road this year), so I’m taking the Blues for half a unit.
Jets vs. Canucks (10:00)
Vancouver’s coming off of three games in a row that they kicked the shit out of Ottawa. I think that’s cause Ottawa’s bad more so that Vancouver being good. The Jets aren’t a bad team but I think this game’s pretty much a toss up. Should be a good game that I’d slightly lean the over in.
