NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 1/31/21

Last night I crushed an awesome night of hockey on a huge slate going 5-1, winning 2.5 units and giving me my second winning day in a row. Today we’ve got a decent Sunday slate of hockey with games through the day. Let’s keep the wins rolling!

Sabres vs. Devils (1:00)

The Sabres and Devils have the early game again today. Yesterday in a fun and close game, the Sabres won 4-3 in a shootout. Today I’d expect a similar, close game and would give a slight edge to the Devils bouncing back from their loss yesterday. I also think -165 is way too pricey on the Sabres, so I’m laying off this game. I’d lean the over.

Hurricanes vs. Stars (5:00)

Last night’s line of the Canes being favored over the defending Western Conference Champions made no sense to me and I took the Stars ML. The Canes outworked Dallas and limited them to only 11 shots. Vinny Trocheck scored two goals in the first seven minutes of the game and that was all Carolina needed to ride out the game to a 4-1 win, cashing the under after a tough sweat. As long as Anton Khudobin is in goal tonight for Dallas, I’m back on the under here for a unit. I think with how bad Dallas played last night they bounce back and should win, but I’m not betting on it.

Red Wings vs. Panthers (5:00)

Despite not being a good team, Detroit’s been sticking around in games this year and haven’t been bad defensively. Getting Thomas Greisse in net has been a big improvement for them this year and they’re staying in games. I think Florida wins again tonight but with Chris Drieger projected to start, I’m laying off this game with the Panthers at -185.

Blackhawks vs. Blue Jackets (7:00)

On Friday night, in a pretty boring game Columbus beat the Blackhawks 2-1 (winner on the Jackets ML). Their last three games, the Blackhawks defense and goaltending hasn’t been too bad but they’re still getting outworked as a team. I’m going back to betting against Chicago and taking the Blue Jackets ML for half a unit.

Flyers vs. Islanders (7:00)

It took till overtime last night for Scott Laughton to end the game for the Flyers and beat the Isles 3-2, after being outshot and out hit. I think tonight’s game stays close as well and with Brian Elliot confirmed in net for the Flyers, my prediction is that the Islanders get a win tonight. This game is too close for me to bet though.

Wild vs. Avalanche (8:00)

Colorado looks to be back to beating teams they’re supposed to beat and easily won 5-1 against Minnesota last night. The Avs are starting Hunter Miska in net tonight, so I’m staying off this game cause I don’t trust Colorado without Grubauer.

Ducks vs. Blues (8:00)

Last night, the Blues went on the road to Anaheim and went duck hunting quickly, scoring two goals in the first minute of the game and then making it 3-0 only 2:16 into the game. The cruised to an easy 6-1 win to cash my Blues ML bet without a sweat. As long as Jordan Binnington’s back in net tonight, I’m on the Blues for a half unit on the ML and a half unit on the puck line.

Oilers vs. Senators (9:00)

The Oilers got a nice 4-3 win against the Leafs last night, with none other than Connor McDavid scoring the game winner in overtime. Tonight they play a lousy Ottawa Senators team that got crushed three games in a row to Vancouver. Troy Grosenick, who I’ve never actually heard of is projected to start in goal for the Oilers and I think -205 is way too expensive to back them. If Koskinen starts, I’ll add the Oilers for a half unit each on the ML and PL.

.5u Blue Jackets ML (-140)

1u Carolina/Dallas under 5.5 (-135)

.5u Blues ML (-165)

.5u Blues -1.5 (+150)

(Cancelled both Blues bet with Villi Husso confirmed in net for St. Louis)

Record: 41-36 (-5.96 units)
