Yesterday with my late addition of the Leafs, I pretty much broke even again. Today the NHL was smart enough to schedule all of their games to end before the Super Bowl since there’s no chance that hockey would get any viewers during Brady/Mahomes. Games start at noon today and the latest are at 3. Let’s get some winners.
Capitals vs. Flyers (12:00)
Both of these decent teams are coming off back to back losses. With Carter Hart in goal, I’d lean the Flyers here but I think this game could go either way and stays close. I’m not betting this one.
Panthers vs. Red Wings (3:00)
Florida has had a pretty weak schedule so far this year and have faced Detroit twice this season, beating them 3-2 in both games. Detroit’s kept it close in both matchups with one of them going to overtime. I want to bet Florida on the ML today but at -240, thats pretty expensive for a team that has a pretty weak schedule to start their season. I’ll take a small bet on Florida in regulation at -150 for half a unit. I don’t hate Detroit +1.5 in this game either at the pretty cheap price of -125. But I’m not going to try to middle it. If Florida gets out to a 1 or 2 goal lead, I wouldn’t hate a live bet on Detroit +2.5.
Blue Jackets vs. Hurricanes (3:00)
I think Carolina is too cheap today against the Jackets with them at -145 on the ML on the road. I’ll take Carolina for a half unit coming off a loss to the Blackhawks.
Stars vs. Blackhawks (3:00)
Starting goaltender for the Stars, Anton Khudobin is scratched today for disciplinary reasons so Jake Oettinger’s starting. He’s been good so far this year with a 2-0-0 record, 2.42 GAA and .898 save percentage in the three games he’s made appearances in this year. The Blackhawks have found their goaltender in Kevin Lankinen and the defense is playing well in front of them so I think Chicago may end up having a better season that I expected going into the year. I’m laying off this game, but Dallas should have the edge.
Golden Knights vs. Kings (3:00)
To me Vegas looks like the best team in hockey this year and my pick to win the Stanley Cup. In their last game against the Kings on Friday night, the Knights got out to a 5-0 lead after two and then stopped caring to let the Kings score two goals in the third period to make the game look like less of a blowout. I’m betting big on Vegas today with 2 units on Vegas in regulation at -160.
.5u Florida in regulation (-150)
.5u Carolina ML (-145)
2u Vegas in regulation (-160)
ADD: .5u Dallas ML (-170) – SUBBAN CONFIRMED IN NET FOR THE BLACKHAWKS INSTEAD OF LANKINEN
Record: 56-53 (-14.12 units)
