NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 3/2/21

Last night I got stupid again with the parlay and lost on that while going 2-2 on my regular bets. Strange night as Ottawa stomped out the Flames, Vegas had an incredible comeback win on Mark Stone’s five assist night, the Jets lost 4-0 to Vancouver (which easily hit the under) on a three goal first period and Colorado got blown out in the third period to the Sharks. Tonight’s got a pretty enticing slate and I’m diving right into it.

Rangers vs. Sabres (7:00)

The Sabres just showed the worst play of the season getting shut out back to back in their last two games against the Flyers 3-0 in each game and only two wins in their last ten. Buffalo’s 1-1 against the Rangers this season. The Rangers haven’t been very good this season but have improved recently and I think they win again tonight. On NY moneyline for half a unit.

Devils vs. Islanders (7:00)

The Devils are pretty cold lately, losing five of their last six games including two against the shitty Sabres. The Isles are a very good hockey team and didn’t lose to any team besides Pittsburgh (four times in six games) in the month of February. I’m on the Isles moneyline for a unit with Varlamov already confirmed in goal, especially with Aaron Dell likely in goal for the Devils.

Penguins vs. Flyers (7:00)

I thought this game was gonna get cancelled with Sid out with COVID this morning and the morning skate getting cancelled but looks like puck’s still dropping tonight between these in state rivals. Both these teams meeting for the first time this season have been pretty decent fighting for playoff spots in a tight Eastern Division, so every point counts. The Flyers have gotten better after dealing with a bunch of injury issues and Pittsburgh’s still decent even in games when Sid is out as Geno usually steps up then. I think this game stays close and would lean the over here, but I’m not betting it. I’ll likely tune in to watch it.

Blue Jackets vs. Red Wings (7:00)

Both of these teams suck this year. In the two games between these teams, they split them and each team won 3-2 in their win. Columbus is on a five game stretch of losing with only one win in their last eight games. I’d lean Columbus to win here but this line of -185 makes no sense and would actually rather take Detroit +1.5 at -155. That being said, I’m not betting this game. If I wasn’t in such a hole this year, I’d probably take that puck line though.

Canadiens vs. Senators (7:00)

This line makes no sense at all at this point of the season. In no way should the highly struggling Montreal Canadiens be a -260 alarming favorite in this game coming off of firing their good head coach amongst a five game losing streak and eight losses in their last ten games. In that stretch, Ottawa’s beat them outright in three of those games. Ottawa’s been surprisingly good in their last stretch of games with six wins in their last eight (two of those losses came from the very good Leafs). They’ve been scoring a ton of goals with at least five goals in each of their last four games. In the fours games this season between these teams, the Sens won three of those and the loss was 2-1. When Ottawa gets to a lead they keep scoring. With Carey Price struggling bad this season, I’m on the puck line with Ottawa +1.5 for a unit since at -110, that line is way too cheap. I’m also gonna hit the Sens ML for half a unit. Kind of unbelievable that I’m hammering Ottawa tonight. If I was having a better year I’d probably take a shot on Ottawa in regulation too at +325. Everything looks like theres a ton of value here, but Montreal still is the better team so it still wouldn’t shock me if they end their losing streak against Ottawa tonight, but the line value on the Senators is just too good to pass up on.

Jets vs. Canucks (8:00)

Last night, the Canucks got off to a hot start with three goals in the first period and rode that to a 4-0 win against the Jets, making the season series even while again hitting the under for me. The under is 3-1 this season and 14-3-1 between these teams in their last 18 games going back to the 2015 season. I’d highly lean the under again but I’m not going to bet it with both backups in goal. I’d also lean the Jets to bounce back here with a win.

Predators vs. Hurricanes (8:00)

Carolina’s been fantastic this year, the Preds haven’t been good. In their one game this season, the Canes won 4-2. I don’t understand why the line here is -125 on Carolina and I’m hitting it for a unit. I’d also slightly lean the under but not enough to bet it.

Stars vs. Lightning (8:30)

After starting the season 4-0, the Stars have since only had two wins since then in the twelve games since then including a 5-0 shut out loss to Tampa in the first game between the two Stanley Cup Final champions from the bubble. Dallas doesn’t look even close to the team they were last year and Tampa still looks like the best team in hockey. Going back to the Bolts for a unit tonight.

Picks

.5u Rangers ML (-145)

1u Islanders ML (-150)

1u Senators +1.5 (-110)

.5u Senators ML (+220)
