Last night was a disappointment, going 1-2 for -2.06 units. Not awful but not great. Carolina lost on a breakaway in overtime where they dominated in OT but a guy gets tripped up and its a 2 on 1 the other way and they lose. Oh well. And then after going down 4-0, Arizona made their come back too little too late and lost 6-4. On to today’s slate of eight NHL games.
Rangers vs. Sabres (7:00)
In Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s NHL debut last week against the Bruins, the Sabres played very well in front of him on their way to a 6-4 win. Their next game against the Rangers though, they lost 6-3. The Sabres aren’t bad lately but they’re able to score and have actually been fun to watch. The Rangers are 5-2 against the Sabres this season and I think they’re the better team here but I don’t think the line on this game should be as heavy as it is at -310. I’m going to skip this game with the price on it. The Rangers should win.
Capitals vs. Islanders (7:00)
These two teams are having an awesome season and should cruise into the East playoffs and this could definitely be a playoff series that we see. This season, the Caps are 5-2 against the Isles and these games have gone a variety of different ways. I think the TT on the Capitals is too low at 2.5 tonight, so I’ll take the Caps TT over for a unit here.
Devils vs. Flyers (7:00)
Both these teams suck and the Devils are playing some of the worst hockey in the NHL over the past month or so, with ten straight losses and only two wins in their last 19 games. The Flyers suck too but they’re at least better than NJ. On Sunday when these teams played, the Devils had a 3-1 lead halfway through the third period, but blew that and ended up losing in a shootout 4-3, making the Flyers 3-1 this season against New Jersey. No chance I was going to bet the Flyers Sunday when they were -210 but at only -140 tonight, I’ll take Philly for the unit. First bet on the Flyers in months but this is more of a bet against the Devils vs. on the Flyers.
Penguins vs. Bruins (7:00)
A very possible playoff series between these team who have traded wins back and forth and the Bruins are 4-3 against Pittsburgh this season. I’d lean that the Bruins answer back with a win tonight after losing 1-0 on Sunday. The under in games between the B’s and Pen’s this season is 6-1, so I will jump on that again here for a unit.
Blue Jackets vs. Red Wings (7:00)
Both of these teams are terrible, sitting at the bottom of the Central Standings. Recently, the Red Wings have been playing better and they are actually 4-4 in their last eight games. Columbus on the other hand have lost nine straight games and only have two wins in their last 18 games. Detroit’s 3-2 this year against the Jackets and I’d slightly lean them to win tonight. This is going to be such a boring game and I want nothing to do with betting it. The under is 5-0 this season in games between these teams so I’d lean the under here but at only 5 goals for the OU, there’s no value to betting it with four of those five games ending with exactly 5 goals. If you want to get fancy on this game you could bet the exact scores of 3-2 and 4-1 for both teams and a pretty good result if that happens, but I don’t really want to have any money sitting on this game.
Blackhawks vs. Lightning (8:00)
Tampa disappointed me on Sunday night when it took them till ten seconds into overtime against the shitty Blue Jackets to win, ruining my Bolts in regulation bet. Tampa’s 6-1 this season against Chicago and I think they continue that tonight. I’ll take Tampa ML for a unit, Tampa in regulation for half a unit to cut down some juice. I’ll also take the puck line here for a half since 5 of those 6 wins they covered it (the one they didn’t ended in OT).
Predators vs. Panthers (8:00)
There’s been some pretty good games between these two Central Division playoff teams this season. I’d give the edge to Florida tonight, who’s 4-3 against Nashville to bounce back from their 4-1 loss to the Preds yesterday, but I don’t think there’s an edge to betting on this game so I’ll skip it.
Stars vs. Hurricanes (8:30)
Last night the Stars got out to a 2-0 lead early in the game before Carolina came back and turned it into a good game, forcing overtime. In OT, the Canes controlled the puck the entire time until a guy got tripped up along the boards, that results in a 2 on 1 the other way for Dallas and the puck was in the back of the net. After that game, the Canes are now 5-2 against the Stars this season. I think Carolina bounces back after last night’s loss and gets the win here. Two units, Hurricanes ML.
