Last night wasn’t bad going 4-4 for -0.72 units. Not awful but it was disappointing that the Coyotes got off to down 3-0 pretty early again and came a goal short of having a fantastic night. Onto a huge ten game NHL slate tonight.
Bruins vs. Sabres (7:00)
When I first looked at the astronomical -400 line on the Bruins tonight, I thought that was outrageous and actually sort’ve leaned at taking a small stab on my Sabres here, who haven’t been playing awful. Digging into it a bit though, Buffalo is 1-6 against the Bruins this season and the B’s actually have something to play for. I think the Bruins win this game but even at -240 on the regulation line, I just don’t think its worth the risk to bet on.
Lightning vs. Stars (7:00)
Last year’s Stanley Cup Final was between these teams and neither of these team are as good as they were last year. Tampa already clinched their place in the playoffs and they’re in a tight race with Carolina and Florida for the top seed in the Central. Dallas after a brutal start to the year have slowly improved and are now only two points from Nashville on the outside looking in. The Bolts are 4-1 this season against Dallas. I’ll go back on Tampa tonight for a unit.
Devils vs. Flyers (7:00)
I lost both of the last two games between these shitty teams as the Flyers won in a shootout on Sunday and then the Devils broke their ten game losing streak in a 6-4 win over Philly on Tuesday night. The Flyers should bounce back with a win here (especially with me not betting this game) but I’m not touching it. Both of these teams suck. Neither of these teams can play defense lately, I don’t have much faith in the goaltending on either side and the over is 4-1 in games they’ve played this season. I’ll take the over for a unit.
Rangers vs. Islanders (7:00)
The Islanders are the better team in New York this season but the Rangers have been much improved recently and have an outside shot at the final playoff spot in the East, currently being Boston by only four points. The Isles are 4-2 this year against the Rangers. They’re coming into this game quite differently too with the Islanders on a three game losing streak and the Rangers on a three game win streak. I’d lean the Isles win here but I’m not betting this game.
Capitals vs. Penguins (7:00)
These two teams are only separated by a point for the best record in the East. Sid, who’s incredibly averaging a point per game against this year and his Penguins are 4-2 against the Caps. They’ve played pretty closely with three of the six games between them needing more than 60 minutes to be decided. I’d lean the Pens win this one but not enough to bet on it.
Hurricanes vs. Red Wings (7:00)
Despite Carolina being the best team in the Central and Detroit being the worst, Detroit actually has a 4-3 winning record against the Hurricanes this season and they’re 5-2 on the puck line. The line on this game in no way should be -410. I do think Carolina wins but at those odds on Detroit and their success against the Canes this year, I can’t ignore the value here. I’ll take a half unit each on the Red Wings puck line and moneyline. Detroit plays fiesty too and they’re better than their shitty record shows.
Maple Leafs vs. Canucks (7:30)
Hockey in Canada sucks this year. The Leafs have by far the best record in the North Division and already clinched playoffs, the Canucks are in last place. Yet, Vancouver’s got a 4-3 lead in the season series between them. Toronto’s coming into this game on three game winning streak of several goal wins and should win this game at home to even it up on the season after dropping their last four straight games they’ve played against the Canucks, but I’m not betting on it.
Blackhawks vs. Panthers (8:00)
Florida’s the better team here and the playoff bound Panthers are 4-2 against Chicago this year. I think Florida bounces back from losing their last two games against the Blackhawks with a win tonight. I’ll take the Panthers for a unit. I’d lean the over as well but at 6.5, I’m not betting it.
Wild vs. Blues (8:00)
Last night when these teams played, the Wild blew a 3-1 lead in the third period and went on to lose 4-3 on three third period goals for the Blues, giving up the game winner with just 23 seconds left in the game. St. Louis is now 3-1 on the year against the Wild. I was considering betting Minnesota last night since I’ve been riding them hard lately and it turned out to be a good thing that I didn’t. I think the Wild answer back with a win tonight, but the Blues are on a three game win streak and want to solidify their last remaining spot in the playoffs. I’ll skip this game again.
Oilers vs. Flames (9:00)
The Battle of Alberta. Edmonton leads the season series in the biggest rivalry in the NHL 5 games to 3 and their offense is red hot lately, led by none other than Connor McDavid. McJesus leads the league in scoring with 84 points, a 17 point lead on his own teammate Leon Draisaitl, he’s first in the league assists by 11 over Patty Kane and he’s second in goals behind Auston Matthews. This kid’s scored 14 point in his last 14 PERIODS played. Not games, periods. Insane. The Oilers are coming into this game winning four of their last five games and scoring at least three goals in all five of those games. I’ll take the Oilers for a unit and McDavid to score for a unit.
