Tonight’s nine game slate is the biggest slate left of the NHL regular season as it draws to a close. Although I’m not betting any of these games since a majority of them have no impacts on the playoffs
Panthers vs. Lightning (7:00)
Tonight these teams meet for the final time of the regular season prior to facing off in the first round of the playoffs for the Battle of Florida. With their 5-1 win on Saturday night, Florida’s 4-3 on the season against the Lightning and have a two point lead in the standings over them. I’d lean Tampa answers back to tie up the season series tonight but with their playoff matchup already set, I don’t have much of a prediction for this game previewing this Central Division playoff series.
Flyers vs. Devils (7:00)
Both of these teams have sucked all year and the season was a disappointment for both of them. After winning the last three games they played against the Flyers, the Devils are 4-3 against Philly on the season. Brian Elliot’s played pretty well for the Flyers the past week and I think they tie up the season series but I’m not betting this game as both teams end their season tonight.
Canadiens vs. Oilers (7:00)
Connor McDavid hit the incredible 100 point mark on Saturday night. Although I think the Oilers are the way better team here, Montreal’s 5-2 on the season against them. With Montreal only two points back in the standings from Winnipeg, they might end up having an interesting playoff series if they are the three seed. Technically Montreal hasn’t clinched yet (although they’re most likely in) so I’d lean the Habs find a way to get a win here against McJesus. Not betting it.
Bruins vs. Islanders (7:00)
Both of these teams are clinched in the playoffs and pretty much set as the 3/4 seeds in the East. So they aren’t really playing for anything in this game. The Isles have gone 5-2 on the season against the Bruins so I’d lean they win this game despite them seemingly already clocked out of the regular season and awaiting whoever they end up seeded against in the playoffs. I’d lean the under as well.
Jets vs. Canucks (8:00)
Both of these teams suck lately and each only have one win in their last five games. Winnipeg punched their tickets into the playoffs last week and tonight are starting Brossoit in goal. The Jets are 5-2 against the Canucks this season. I’d lean even with Brossoit, Winnipeg wins here but I wouldn’t bet on it. I’d lean the over as well.
Hurricanes vs. Predators (8:00)
On Saturday night with their place on the playoffs on the line, the Nashville Predators beat the Canes 3-1 for their first win in seven games against Carolina this season to clinch their place in the playoffs against the team they’re locked into playing in the first round. I’d lean Carolina wins this game (and ends up winning their playoff series).
Blackhawks vs. Stars (8:00)
Both of these teams had pretty disappointing seasons. The Blackhawks are 5-2 against Dallas this season and coming off a 4-2 loss to them last night after getting eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday night. Collin Delia’s starting in goal for Chicago and the over has hit in the last five games between these two teams (5-2 on the season). I’d lean the over in this game and slightly lean the Hawks to win.
Golden Knights vs. Avalanche (10:00)
These two teams are some of the best in the league and are battling it out for first place in the West. If the West Finals come down to these two teams its going to be incredible. Vegas and the Avs have matched up very close this season and Vegas leads the season series 4-3. If Vegas wins in regulation tonight they clinch first place in the West and the President’s Trophy with home ice throughout the entire playoffs, as far as they go. I’d lean the Golden Knights in this game but I wouldn’t bet on anything in this matchup.
Kings vs. Blues (10:00)
The Blues clinched their 4th place finish in the playoffs with their 4-3 overtime loss to Vegas on Friday night (they’re going to get smoked by Vegas or Colorado in the playoffs). The Kings have sucked the whole season but they’re 5-2 on the year against the Blues. This game means nothing to either team but I’d slightly lean the Blues and the under in this game.
