With the Stanley Cup in the building on Monday night, in the best game of the series, the Montreal Canadiens got a 3-2 overtime win to avoid the sweep and extend the NHL season for another night. The Lightning outshot the Habs 34-21 and hit four posts in regulation. In the closing minute of regulation, Shea Weber went to the box with a four minute high sticking penalty. The Canadiens killed it off in the first three minutes on fresh ice in overtime and then less than a minute later, Josh Anderson scored the incredible game winner on a pass from Cole Caufield. Tonight the series goes back to Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay, giving the Bolts the chance to win the Cup on home ice.
Game 5: Lightning vs. Canadiens (8:00)
Even in Monday night’s loss, Tampa Bay has been the better team every game of this series and the best team in the NHL this season. I expected the Bolts to sweep the Habs with a win Monday and they came very close. Tampa hasn’t lost back to back playoffs games since the 2019 season and have bounced back from every loss in the playoffs the last two years. The Lightning lift their second Stanley Cup in a row tonight on home ice. In addition to the 12.25 units I’ll win when they win the Cup, I’ll take the expensive Tampa ML for two more units tonight and Tampa in regulation for two units. Andrea Vasilevskiy, who I’d expect wins the Conn Smythe tonight has been incredible closing out series. In the Eastern Conference Finals, after losing Game 5 up 3-1, he had a shutout to win the series in Game 6. In the Cup Finals last year, same thing. Shutout win. In the first round this season, when they lost Game 5 to Florida when they were up 3-1, Vas bounced back with a shutout to win the series and then again capped off the semi finals in Game 7 this season with a shutout against the Islanders. The minimum on my main book is .4 units so I’ll throw that on the fun prop of a Vasilevskiy shutout win in tonight’s game at the nice price of +575. Let’s win that Stanley Cup tonight and cap off the season with at least a 16 unit win!
2u Lightning ML (-245)
2u Lightning in regulation (-137)
.4u Lightning shutout win (+575)
4u Stanley Cup Champions: Tampa Bay Lightning (+200)
3u Stanley Cup Champions: Tampa Bay Lightning (+175)
1u Stanley Cup Champions: Montreal Canadiens (+800)
Record: 364-286-4 (-53.6 units)
