I haven’t had a great start to betting the NHL season this week, but the season has just started and as teams settle in the results I expect should come much easier. Tonight, not a great four game slate but there’s some spots where we can find value.
Maple Leafs vs. Rangers (7:00)
The Rangers suck to start the season, with a 1-1-1 record with only a win over Montreal. The Leafs despite being so hyped up like they are every year are 2-1, splitting games with Ottawa and beating the Habs 2-1. Auston Matthew joins the Leafs lineup tonight which should give their offense that hasn’t scored 2.33 goals per game in their three games this season a nice spark. I think Toronto wins this game but there’s no value to betting them at -186 and this game almost feels like a trap to me. With Campbell (confirmed) and Shesterkin (projected) in goal, I’d lean the under but both of these offenses have the potential to score in bunches if they perform as well as they should so I’ll skip that too. I’ll lay off this game entirely.
Flyers vs. Kraken (7:00)
The Kraken have been a fun team to watch so far and they’re 1-1-1 now after losing in overtime to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. The Flyers only played one game so far this season, a 5-4 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks. I’d lean that the Kraken win this game but there’s no value on betting what I expect is a close game. I don’t really have any feel on either side of the over/under. Skipping this game from a betting perspective.
Flames vs. Ducks (9:30)
I think Anaheim is one of the worst teams in hockey this season and I’ve bet against the Ducks in both of their games this year, first with a surprising 4-1 win over (that I lost one) where they were outplayed by the Jets but capitalized on lots of power play opportunities and then their 2-1 loss (that I won on) to the Wild where they lost in the final eight seconds of regulation. The Flames I think could end up being bad as well this season but have enough good players that they should be able to beat the Ducks tonight. I just don’t see any value to laying the -195 on them. Calgary’s a tough team to read on a game by game basis and I’m not betting them at that price.
Coyotes vs. Blues (10:00)
The Yotes are one of the worst teams in hockey and are going to have a terrible season and looked awful in their two games this season, getting curb stopped by the Blue Jackets 8-2 and losing to the Sabres in a 2-1 shootout. Both bad teams that embarrassed Arizona. The Blues are a way better team than both Columbus and Buffalo and in their only game so far this season they beat Colorado 5-3 on Saturday night (Colorado was missing their two best players, MacKinnon and Landeskog). With the very favorable goalie mismatch as well between Jordan Binnington and Carter Hutton and St. Louis being the better hockey team in every aspect of the game, I’m hammering the Blues tonight. I’ll take St. Louis ML for a unit, another unit on the Blues in regulation to cut down on the juice and the Blues over 3 goals for half a unit. Let’s go Blues!!!
1u Blues ML (-180)
1u Blues in regulation (-114)
.5u Blues TT over 3 (-141)
Record (Regular Season): 9-12 (-7.26 units)
