On last night’s small slate I went 1-1 (-0.4 units) on the Bruins game, easily hitting the over and losing the ML. The Blues game turned out pretty much how I expected it to without any action on it. Tonight a huge nine game NHL slate with some HUGE matchups to cash in on!
Canadiens vs. Hurricanes (7:00)
Montreal’s offense has looked horrendous this season so far, scoring an average of less than a goal per game and their defense and goaltending hasn’t been good either, allowing an average of 3.75 goals per game. This team could be brutal this season. Carolina despite losing some big players in the offseason were pretty good through their two games. The Canes should get a pretty easy win on the road here, even with the unfavorable goalie matchup with Allen vs. Anderson projected. I’ll take Carolina for a unit (way too cheap) and Montreal TT under 2.5 goals in regulation for half a unit.
Senators vs. Sharks (7:00)
Pretty interesting matchup here. I didn’t have any expectations for the Sharks this season but they’re 2-0 so far this season, averaging 4.5 goals per game with a 4-3 win over Winnipeg and beat up on Montreal 5-0. The Senators picked up where they were last year, a fiesty team that’s a pain in the ass to play against and pull out wins when they shouldn’t. They’re 2-1 this season and have kept their games close. I’d slightly lean the Sharks to win in a close game with Matt Murray (who blows) in goal and the over but neither of those I’m confident enough to bet on, so I’ll skip this game. I also looked at the Sharks team total over, but at 3, I don’t think there’s enough value in betting it.
Panthers vs. Avalanche (7:00)
This should be a great game tonight between two very good teams. Nathan MacKinnon’s healthy and back in the lineup for Colorado along with Gabriel Landeskog coming off of his suspension, so this team should be firing at all cylinders. Florida’s been great too so far this season, 3-0 with big wins over Pittsburgh, the Islanders and Tampa, all playoff teams last year. Both of these teams are starting their backups in goal tonight, with Sergei Bobrovsky and Jonas Johansson (who I watched a good amount in Buffalo last season before he got traded to the Avs). I love the over in this game. I’ll take the alternate over 6 in this game for a unit. Both teams should be able to score.
Devils vs. Capitals (7:00)
The Capitals look fantastic this season through three games, dominated the Rangers and Avalanche (without the Nate dogg and Lande) and lost to Tampa 2-1. The Devils improved a lot in the offseason and beat the Chicago and Seattle. I think this is a lousy matchup for them tonight and I’ll back Ovi and the Caps here on the road for a unit.
Blue Jackets vs. Islanders (7:00)
The Isles had a lousy start to their season with losses to Carolina and Florida before dominating Chicago on the road Tuesday night with a 4-1 win. Columbus hasn’t impressed me much yet this year. They beat up on Arizona for their opener but that doesn’t mean much to mean since I think everyone in the NHL is gonna crush the Yotes all year, beat Seattle 2-1 and lost to Detroit 4-1. I’ll take the Isles here for half a unit, way better team.
Red Wings vs. Flames (7:30)
This is an interesting game to me between two teams I expect to be pretty lousy this season. In their two games this season, which they lost both of, Calgary hasn’t looked terrible. They outshot the Oilers 47-33 in their opener but it’s tough to win when Connor McJesus scores a hat trick on you and then they were able to generate 43 shots on goal against the Ducks in their overtime 3-2 loss. That’s a lot of shots from a good offense in two games. Detroit definitely looks better than last year and they’re 2-1, with that loss being a 7-6 overtime loss to Tampa where they gave up two separate three goal leads against the defending back to back Cup champs. I’d slightly lean the Flames here but not enough to bet on them. If your book has shot props, I’d suggest looking at them for Calgary against the Detroit defense but mine doesn’t have any so I’m skipping this game.
Predators vs. Rangers (8:00)
Pretty good goalie matchup in this game with Juuse Saros going up against Igor Shesterkin. I don’t think either of these teams are very good and both of them haven’t been able to score much but have played decent defensively. I’ll take a half unit stab on the under on this one.
Jets vs. Ducks (8:00)
The Ducks I think have way exceeded expectations through their four games this season, beating Winnipeg and Calgary and losing in one goal games to Minnesota and Edmonton. The Jets are 0-3 and even in good spots haven’t gotten the job done, especially on defense where they’re just leaving Connor Hellebuyck out to dry. Winnipeg is the better team here and they should even up the season series with a win here at home, but I don’t trust them enough to bet it so I’ll just skip this game tonight.
Blackhawks vs. Canucks (8:30)
The Blackhawks got a lot of pieces in the offseason that should have lead to a big improvement for them, but through their four games this season, they’re 0-3-1, allowing at least 4 goals in all of those games and not being able to score enough to make up for the hole their defense digs them. Vancouver hasn’t been great either and they’re 1-2-1 this year. I think Chicago’s the more talented team here but I’m not betting on them to get their first win of the season. I’d slightly lean the over too, but not enough to bet it. Skipping this game.
Coyotes vs. Oilers (10:00)
The Arizona Coyotes through three games this season look fucking horrendous. They got shit kicked by the Blue Jackets and the Blues and lost in a shootout to the Buffalo Sabres. McDavid, Draisaitl and their Oilers have looked solid through their three wins so far this season. Even if the rest of the team underperforms, McJesus and Draisaitl can make up for that on their own. Especially with Karel Vejmelka (who I’ve never heard of) starting in goal tonight for Arizona, the Oilers are going to fucking kill the Yotes. I’m hammering this game with a unit on the Oilers ML, a unit on the Oilers in regulation and a unit on the Oilers TT over 3.5.
1u Carolina ML (-130)
.5u Montreal TT under 2.5 in regulation (-108)
1u Florida/Colorado over 6 (-162)
1u Capitals ML (-130)
.5u Islanders ML (-155)
.5u Predators/Rangers under 5.5 (-110)
1u Oilers ML (-200)
1u Oilers in regulation (-127)
1u Oilers TT over 3.5 (-125)
Record (Regular Season): 17-17 (-6.1 units)
