NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 10/30/21

I had a great bounce back night on the NHL last night, going 4-1 and winning 2.44 units. Let’s keep the winning rolling today!

Predators vs. Islanders (1:30)

Both of these teams have been playing average hockey, despite me having completely opposite exceptions of these two teams. I had Stanley Cup Finals expectations for this Islanders team but they’ve had a slow start at 3-2-1, averaging 2.5 goals both for and against per game. My expectations were very low for the Nashville Predators and besides the games that Juuse Saros would steal away in goal, I think the Preds are just slightly better than a lottery team. They haven’t been terrible this season so far with a 3-4 record, scoring an average and allowing an average of 2.86 goals per game in both directions. I think the Isles are the better team here and even on the road I like them to win what will likely be a low scoring game (OU set at 5 has no value to it), especially with almost a week of rest (they haven’t played since last Sunday). I’ll take the Isles for half a unit here.

Kings vs. Canadiens (4:00)

Both of these teams suck. Neither of them have been able to generate much offense and neither have been solid on the other end of the ice either. Montreal is averaging a pathetic 1.88 goals per game (which is pretty driven up from their 5-1 win over Detroit and their surprisingly 3-0 victory over SJ on Thursday night, besides those two games they haven’t scored more than a goal, while allowing an average of 3.13 per game. The Kings look terrible too with a 1-5-1 record and coming into this game on a six game losing streak and haven’t won since their first game of the season. They’re only averaging 2.29 goals per game and allowing 3.29. I’d give the Habs the slight edge here especially if Jake Allen is starting in goal, but I have zero interest in touching this game. If anything I’d take the under cause neither team can get the puck in the net.

Bruins vs. Panthers (7:00)

Last night in their first game after the “resignation” of head coach Joel Quenneville, the Panthers got their eighth win of the season, keeping their perfect record with a 3-2 overtime win over the Detroit Red Wings. Their offense is firing averaging 4.25 goals per game while their defense is locking down the ice, only allowing 1.88 per game. The Bruins are 3-3 to start the year with a sort of boring start, averaging 2.5 goals per game and allowing 3 per game. On paper the Panthers are the better team here and should win but with them still coming off losing Q behind the bench and on the back half of a back to back after last night’s OT game, I’ll stay off this one completely. I could see the B’s giving Florida their first loss of the year tonight in Boston.

Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings (7:00)

The Leafs stink. They’re 3-4-1 to start the year and still have a terrible scoring percentage, generating a ton of shots on goal (average of 34.4 per game) but only averaging 2 goals per game. They’re not putting the puck in the back of the net. Detroit sucks too but they’re surprisingly 4-2-2 and they’ve played decent lately. Toronto should win this game at home tonight but they should be winning every game they play and they don’t. I sure as shit am not laying the juice on the Leafs at -295. If anything on this game I think there’s some value on Detroit +1.5, but I’m not touching this game. Betting on the Leafs isn’t part of my gambling brand.

Penguins vs. Devils (7:00)

The Penguins are 3-2-2 coming into this game with back to back losses to Tampa and Calgary. They had a decent start to the year averaging 3.43 goals per game without any of their stars. But that changes tonight as the best player of a generation (although McJesus is taking that crown), Sidney Crosby is back in the lineup for the Pens tonight which should give them an extra jolt tonight at home. They should be buzzing. The Devils are 3-2, but all three of their wins weren’t great coming against Chicago, Buffalo and Seattle. They’re averaging 2.8 goals per game while allowing 3 goals per game. I think the Pens come out hot with Sid and win this game and I’ll back them with a unit on the Penguins ML.

Sharks vs. Jets (7:00)

The Sharks are coming off of a disappoint 3-0 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night with a 4-3 record. They’re averaging 2.86 goals per game and allowing an average of 2.57 per game. This team is slightly exceeding my expectations and I’d guess they end the season around .500. The Jets are pretty similar with a pretty good offense, averaging 3.86 goals per game but a terrible defense in front of a good Connor Hellebuyck, allowing 3.43 per game. This game’s a coin toss to me but since I’d expect both teams to score I’ll take the over for half a unit.

Blues vs. Blackhawks (8:00)

Not even getting into all the off ice drama in Chicago, on the ice this Blackhawks team is dead on arrival. This team is beyond awful and they haven’t gotten a win yet this year (0-6-2). They’re not scoring (averaging 2.13 goals per game) but they’re terrible on the other end of the ice, only better than Arizona at the bottom of the NHL allowing 4.5 goals per game. The Blues have had a great start, buzzing around with a 5-1 record. They’re scoring a ton of goals, averaging 4.67 per game, the best in the NHL. On the other end of the ice that psycho Jordan Binnington’s been good and they’re only allowing 2.5 per game. I love St. Louis here tonight so I’ll take them for a unit and a half on the ML, half a unit on the puck line and half a unit on the Blues TT over 3.5.

Avalanche vs. Wild (9:00)

The Avs have been kind of a disappointing team to start the year, they’re 3-4 and their whole team isn’t performing at the level that they should be, averaging 2.71 goals per game and allowing 3.71 per game. I still have a lot of faith in this Avs roster and they’ll end up figuring it out eventually. The Wild have been okay, with their 5-2 record looking better than how they’ve played. I’d lean the Avs win this one at home, but I don’t see much value in betting either side of this game.

Flames vs. Flyers (10:00)

Both of these teams are exceeding expectations and have been pretty fun to watch this season! The 4-1-1 Flyers offense is clicking and they’re averaging a solid 4.17 goals per game. Calgary’s offense has been good as well, averaging 3.57 goals per game. I’d lean the Flyers end the Flame’s five game win streak tonight with a win on the road, but I don’t see much value in betting it. I like the over here though and I’ll take it for half a unit.

Canucks vs. Oilers (10:00)

The Oilers (5-1) took their first loss of the season Wednesday night against the Flyers in a very entertaining 5-3 game. Connor McDavid is by far the best player in the NHL and him and the Oilers offense look fantastic, averaging 4.33 goals per game and McJesus leads the league (tied with Ovi) with 15 points. Vancouver’s 3-4-1 on the year, not really doing anything to stand out. The first time these teams played this season, Edmonton won 3-2 in a shootout. I think the Oilers win this one too and I’ll take them for half a unit.
