Happy Halloween!! Yesterday wasn’t great with hockey. I went 2-6, losing 1.94 units. Not the worst but not too good. Let’s bounce back with some big wins on today’s Sunday slate of five NHL games.
Hurricanes vs. Coyotes (1:00)
This is statistically the most lopsided matchup in the NHL. The Arizona Coyotes are the worst team in hockey on both ends of the ice, 0-7-1 dead last in average goals per for game (1.5 goals) and allowing the most the other way (4.50 goals allowed per game). On the other hand, the Carolina Hurricanes are undefeated at 7-0, first in the NHL in average goals scored per game (4.43 goals per game) and with the least goals allowed per game (1.57). I love the Canes here at home, but I’m not betting anything at -375. I’ll bet 1.5 units on the Canes in regulation, a unit on the Canes TT over 3.5 in regulation and half a unit on the Yotes TT under 2 in regulation.
Ducks vs. Canadiens (4:00)
This is a pretty lousy matchup between two shitty teams. The Habs are 2-7, coming off a 5-2 loss to LA last night. They’re third last in the NHL in goals per game, averaging only 1.89. Their offense hasn’t been able to get anything going and their defense isn’t very good especially without Carey Price to be able to steal games away. The 2-4-3 Ducks have been keeping games close but also aren’t very good. They’re third last in goals allowed per game, at a pretty high 3.56 per game. With Sam Montembeault starting for Montreal, I’d lean the Ducks win this one at home but I’ll completely skip this game. No edge in betting either side of this.
Kings vs. Sabres (4:00)
Last night the LA Kings finally ended their six game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens to go to 2-5-2 on the year. This team isn’t very good. The Sabres are shockingly 5-1-1 on the year, averaging 3.14 goals per game and only allowing 2 per game. They’ve been fun to watch before they’ll inevitably start a tail spin to the bottom of the NHL. I’d lean my Buffalo Sabres get a win out in LA today but not enough to bet on them.
Devils vs. Blue Jackets (5:00)
Both these teams are in the middle of the pack in the NHL and aren’t particularly great. The Blue Jackets are 4-3, averaging both 2.71 goals per and goals allowed per game. The Devils are 4-2, scoring an average of 3 goals per game and allowing 2.83 per game. I’d lean NJ wins this game at home but I don’t see any value in betting it at -140, in what I’d expect .
Kraken vs. Rangers (9:00)
The Seattle Kraken haven’t been very good to start the year, with a 3-4-1 record but they’re coming into this game on a two game win streak with a 5-1 win over Montreal and surprising 4-1 win over the Minnesota Wild. They’re averaging 2.75 goals per game but allowing 3.13. I think Seattle ends up in the middle of the pack at the end of the year and missing the playoffs. The Rangers have been very good defensively on their back end with fantastic goaltending coming from Igor Shesterkin, they’re sixth in fewest goals allowed in the NHL only allowing 2.25 goals per game. The issue the Rangers have is that even with some of their highly skilled forwards, they’re only averaging 2.38 goals per game. They’re winning low scoring games and they’re coming into this game off a 4-0 shutout win over Columbus on Friday night, with a 5-2-1 record and five wins in their last six games. I think NY wins this game on the road and I’ll take them for a unit on the ML.
