It was a big grind but another profitable day as the Calgary Flames come up huge in the last game of the night for a 6-5-1 +0.54 unit day, pressing my NHL win streak to 6 straight days! There’s only one game on the docket tonight, Rangers vs. Oilers.
Rangers vs. Oilers (7:00)
Yesterday the Rangers started out the day with an impressive 4-0 shutout victory for Igor Shesterkin at home in MSG against the Tampa Bay Lightning, their second win in a row against the Bolts. The Rangers have been really good this season at 21-8-4. They’re averaging 2.88 goals per game but have been especially good on the back end, allowing a fifth fewest average of 2.52 goals per game. On the second leg of a back to back though, with Shesterkin starting yesterday, the Rangers will most likely be going with Alexandar Georgiev in goal tonight, who’s a pretty big liability for them. The 18-12-2 Oilers have had their struggles with three straight losses (the last two both in overtime against the Devils and Islanders, that I lost on both of) coming out of the Christmas break. They have the eighth highest scoring offense in the NHL, averaging 3.88 goals per game and the highest converting power play, scoring on 31.2% of those opportunities. Connor McDavid (53 points, 34 assists) and Leon Draisaitl (52 points, 25 goals) are still leading the entire NHL but where this team falls short is their defense and goaltending, giving up an average of 3.22 goals per game that even that offense hasn’t been able to make up for. I’d lean the Rangers at home here but with them on the second half of the back to back after yesterday’s huge game and Georgiev in goal, this could be a let down spot for them so I’ll skip the side on this game. The play I really like is the over since I expect the Rangers to be able to score on the shitty defense and goaltending of the Oilers and the Oilers to get a few past Georgiev. The problem is that the line is set at 6.5, which I hate betting. It’s a little bit pricey but I’m going to buy this one down to 6 at -143 and play that for a unit. Let’s keep the winning streak rolling!
