We’re finally at the end of the regular season (not including a makeup game tomorrow) with every team in the NHL in action tonight for a 15 game slate. Most of these games today are completely meaningless with most playoff matchups for the first round already decided and the President’s Trophy already rewarded to the Florida Panthers. I should’ve probably taken this week off of betting with all these meaningless games as I went 3-6 to lose 3.75 units. Let’s get ready for the best time of the year, the Stanley Cup playoffs!!!
I’m mixing it up a little bit for the last day of the season since none of these games matter besides two of them and the full breakdowns of all of tonight’s games are essentially a waste of time that aren’t worth writing about for hours.
The only two games that have any playoff implications involve the Minnesota Wild and the St. Louis Blues. The Wild need at least a point to clinch home ice in the first round in their game at home against the Avs today. Colorado who have first place in the West all locked up doesn’t really have any motivation behind this game and I think Minny gets it done. I’ll take them for half a unit. The other scenario where the Blues would get home ice, two points back but with a tiebreaker over the Wild is for them to beat the Golden Knights and for the Wild to lose in regulation. I’ll take St. Louis for a unit to get their part of it done and then likely be disappointed by the Wild. That should be the best playoff series of the year.
Pretty much every other playoff team will be resting their best players for the playoffs. In all of those games, I’d slightly lean the underdogs but not enough to actually bet any of them.
Along with that, I expect my Sabres to beat the Blackhawks at home to close out the season on a great note with Rick Jeanneret’s last call. I will take them on the ML for 2 units and the puck line for a unit.
