Started the NHL season with a big win yesterday as the Preds beat the Sharks 4-1 in Prague. Today they play again with another chance to cash in before Tuesday’s start for every other team in North America.
Predators vs. Sharks (2:00)
Yesterday the Preds got out to an early lead just 1:01 as Kiefer Sherwood scored just 1:01 into the game. Tomas Hertl answered back 8:36 into the first to tie up the game in his hometown of Prague with the only goal the Sharks scored on Juuse Saros. In the second period, Eeli Tolvanen scored just 1:24 into the period and Nino Niederreiter got his first goal as a Predator to make it 3-1 before Matt Duchene ended the game on an empty net as Nashville went on to win 4-1. Despite the final score being lopsided, the Sharks actually played a pretty close game and just couldn’t get the puck past Saros. The Predators only outshot the Sharks 32-31 and had only one more hit (23-22). I cashed in yesterday on the Preds in regulation for my first win of the season. I do think Nashville is the much better team in this matchup but with both backup goaltenders confirmed in goal, I don’t feel comfortable backing them today in this matchup. Kevin Lankinen was terrible last year for the Blackhawks with a 3.5 GAA and .891 save percentage. Although I’d expect him to be much better this season with a way more efficient defense in front of him, I still don’t trust betting on him just yet. On the other end of the ice, Kaapo Kahkonen for the Sharks was a solid backup last year with a 2.87 GAA and .912 save percentage. I’ll stay off a side in this game with a slight lean to San Jose getting a win (but not enough to bet on them), but I do like the over with both backups between the pipes and with the pace of yesterday’s game between these teams. I’ll take the over for half a unit.
Game Bets
.5u Predators/Sharks over 6 (-110)
Record: 1-0 (+0.5 units)
