Sabres vs. Canadiens: 10/27/22 – Game Reactions/Recap

Tonight the Sabres came back from their west coast road trip with a home game against the Canadiens and played well but fell short losing 3-2.

The Sabres came out a bit sloppy tonight but they killed off two penalties in the first five minutes of the game and hung in there pretty good for a team team that just came back from a west coast road trip. In the first period, Comrie got a piece of the puck to make the initial save on Brendan Gallagher but the puck ended up going off Owen Power’s skate on the rebound for the Habs to get on the board first with 6:29 left in first period.  Fun first period, little sloppy for the Sabres but lots of action with 25 total shots on goal.

Jeff Skinner deked out Sam Montembeault 31 seconds into the second period to tie it up at 1-1 on a beauty goal that he finished top shelf. The Sabres poured it on in the second, outshooting Montreal 14-7 in the period.

With 13:08 left in the game, the Habs made it 2-1 on a goal from Kaiden Guhle and not too long later Dylan Cozens tied it up with 7:06 left in the third period. Eric Comrie made a few insane saves in a row but Montreal kept the puck in the zone and took the lead with 3:46 left in regulation to give the Canadiens a lead once again late in the game and they rode it out to a 3-2 win.

FINAL: Sabres 2, Canadiens 3

Disappointing result but the Sabres played pretty good tonight. They poured it on, outshooting the Habs 45-34 but just couldn’t get the puck past Montembeault. Lot better than Tuesday’s game. Let’s get a win against the Blackhawks on Saturday when Patty Kane comes home.
