Sabres vs. Coyotes: 11/8/22 – Game Reactions/Recap

After back to back 5-3 losses on the road to much better teams in Carolina on Friday and Tampa on Saturday, the Sabres returned home tonight to face off against the lowly Arizona Coyotes. We didn’t get the results we wanted though, losing 4-1 to the Yotes in a pathetic showing.

The Sabres got in the hole early in the game with Lawson Crouse putting the Yotes on the board just 23 seconds into the first period. Tage Thompson tied the game up with 5:34 left in the first on a great shot on the power play for his eighth goal of the season. The tie game didn’t last long though at Matias Maccelli made it 2-1 Arizona with 2:30 left in the period.

After a scoreless second period and a long 40 minute intermission due to the Zamboni breaking down, 2:24 into the third period, on a far shot from the point by Liam O’Brien, the Coyotes made it 3-1. Lousy goal to give up on what looked to be tipped in somewhere. The Coyotes iced off the game with Clayton Keller putting the puck in the empty net from around center ice to make it 4-1 Yotes with 2:10 left in the game.

FINAL: Sabres 1, Coyotes 4

Pathetic game. I can deal with losing to the Hurricanes and Lightning, two teams that were very good last season and made the playoffs and likely could compete for the Cup again this year. But losing to the Yotes is horrible. This team sucks and I’m surprised the Coyotes won two in a row after a big win against the Caps. Good for them I guess. Bad for us. We outshot the Yotes 33-22 but that didn’t matter. This shouldn’t have been a close game but we trailed in 57 minutes of tonight.

Jack Eichel and his Vegas Golden Knights return to Key Bank Center in Buffalo on Thursday to take on the Sabres, hoping to get revenge on the Sabres win last year that turned around their season late in the year. The Knights are on an eight game win streak after their overtime win in Toronto tonight and they’re easily the best team in the West. I don’t feel great about that matchup. And then we face the best team in the East, the fucking Bruins on Saturday. Not a good stretch that you can’t really look forward to.

Tough writing this one up, really the only real negative blog so far this season.

Go Sabres.
