NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 11/20/22

Fantastic day for me on yesterday’s biggest NHL slate of the season going 6-3 to win 2.8 units with two of those losses coming in overtime. After yesterday’s 15 games, tonight we only have two hockey games on this NFL Sunday. Let’s win again!

Blue Jackets vs. Panthers (6:00)

After going on a 3-0-1 stretch, the Blue Jackets regressed back to the level I expected last night, getting blown out 6-1 at home by the Blue Jackets to drop to 6-10-1 on the season. Columbus has dealt with tons of injuries facing them on both ends of the ice and this week they found out that their star defenseman Zach Werenski will be out for the rest of the season with a torn labrum. The Jackets offense has been okay enough, scoring an average of 2.94 goals per game on an average of 30.4 shots per game but they have the worst defense in the NHL, giving up an NHL leading 4.41 goals per game on an average of 36.6 shots per game. The Panthers yesterday afternoon played a very entertaining game, ultimately losing 5-4 in a shootout at home to the Flames, their third loss in their last four games to come into tonight with a 9-7-2 record. Florida’s offense has been good this season, scoring an average of 3.33 goals per game on a very high average of 40.3 shots per game, generating a ton of scoring chances. Their defense hasn’t been up to par though, allowing an average of 3.22 goals per game on an average of 31.6 shots allowed. Last year Florida won two of the three games between these teams that were all very high scoring with 9-2 and 8-4 wins along with a 6-3 Blue Jackets win. I’d expect Florida to win today but at the -265 price, I don’t think its worth betting them on the road. The play I like a lot on this game is the Panthers TT with I’ll take for 1.5 units. Additionally, I’ll go with a unit on the over for a unit and the alternate over 8.5 for half a unit.

Blackhawks vs. Penguins (7:00)

Coming off a big 3-0 shutout win in Winnipeg last night, the Penguins have now gone 4-1-1 in their last six games to improve to 8-7-3 on the season after their terrible seven game losing streak. Pittsburgh has been pretty good offensively this year, scoring an average of 3.61 goals per game on an average of 33.7 shots per game. Defensively is where they’ve had their issues though, allowing an average of 3.39 goals per game this year on an average of 33.5 shots given up. After getting blown out 6-1 in Boston last night, the Blackhawks come into today’s game on a three game losing streak with only two wins in their last eleven games, dropping them to 6-8-3 after their 4-2 start to the year. Chicago’s now pretty much performing at the level I thought they would this year. They’ve averaged only 2.41 goals on an average of just 25.4 shots generated and defensively they’ve now allowed an average of 3.29 goals per game on an average of 35.2 shots given up. Last year these teams split their two games with a 5-2 Penguins win and 3-2 Blackhawks win. I think the moneyline is too expensive here at -225 but I will take the Pens in regulation for half a unit, expecting them to get a win on the road.
