Came a Panthers goal short of sweeping the day yesterday, but with that swing went 2-2 to lose 1.62 units. Let’s bounce back tonight on this huge ten game Monday night NHL slate!
Going to try to mix it up a bit today and just give my thoughts on each game tonight rather than writing all the stats, history and everything that helps me come to the conclusion of my bets. Just testing this out and might go back to going in depth breaking down each game…plus who really reads every detail to these every day that I put hours into it?
Devils vs. Oilers (7:00)
The Devils have been incredible on both ends of the ice, especially offensively where they’ve lead the NHL in expected goals and high danger scoring chances. The Oilers have next to no depth behind Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and their defense has struggled big time. I like the Devils to keep their win streak going here at home and I’ll take them for half a unit, looking for them to get their second win against Edmonton this year.
Flyers vs. Flames (7:00)
Even though the Flames haven’t been great with an 8-7-2, they’ve actually been very good offensively and have had lousy puck line. They’ve also struggled on the back end. The Flyers have crashed down to expectations, coming into tonight on a is game losing streak. This team sucks. I like the Flames to get a win here and will take them in regulation for half a unit since the moneyline is definitely not worth it at -240.
Lightning vs. Bruins (7:00)
The Bruins are a complete fucking wagon. Best team in the NHL this season with a 16-2 record and after their 6-1 blowout win against the Blackhawks on Saturday, they’re on a six game win streak. This team’s incredible, leading the NHL on both ends of the ice this season and statistically the best team in the league both offensively and defensively. The Bolts are on a four game win streak of their own and have been quite good as well with an 11-6-1 record after beating the Preds 3-2 in overtime on Saturday in Nashville. They’ve been just as good offensively as they have been the last few years but they haven’t been quite as good defensively with Vasilevskiy struggling a bit. This is a tough matchup against the three time Eastern Conference champs but I think the Bruins keep the win streak going on the road and are clearly the better team this season. I’ll take the B’s for a unit.
Maple Leafs vs. Islanders (7:30)
The Leafs crushed the Sabres on Saturday night, getting off to a 3-0 start in the first period and that was all they needed as they rode that out to a 5-2 win, improving to 10-5-4 on the season. They haven’t impressed me and I see this team getting yet another first round exit this season. Despite losing their last two games, the Isles have played pretty good hockey on both ends of the ice. They’re 11-8 coming into tonight but they’ve been decent enough both offensively and defensively. Toronto’s the slightly better team here and would lean they win at home but in no way do I think they’re worth the -175 price. I’d actually see some value in the Isles but not enough to bet it so I’ll just lay off this game. Would slightly lean the over but not enough to bet that either.
Jets vs. Hurricanes (7:30)
The Jets are coming off a 3-0 shutout loss on Saturday at home against the Penguins but they’ve really impressed me with their 10-5-1 start to the season. They’re not the best offensively but they’ve been fantastic on the back end, one of the best defensive teams in the NHL this season thanks to Connor Hellebuyck’s phenomenal play in goal. He’s getting the night off tonight with David Rittich confirmed in goal, who sucks. The Canes are coming off two overtime losses in a row but I still think they are a Stanley Cup contender. Their stats haven’t totally translated to it but they’ve been playing really good hockey on both ends of the ice. If Hellebuyck was starting here, I’d lay off this game completely but with Rittich in goal, I like the Canes to beat up on Winnipeg tonight on the road to bounce back from the OT loss. I’ll take Carolina for half a unit.
NOTE: I forgot to actually bet this.
Predators vs. Coyotes (8:00)
The Coyotes are one of the worst teams in the NHL and losing their last three straight games have dropped to 6-9-1 on the season. They’ve played terrible on both ends of the ice. The Preds are finally rolling with a 3-0-1 record in their last four games to improve to 8-8-2 on the season after their terrible start for the year. I like them to win tonight in Smashville against this terrible Coyotes team, especially with Connor Ingram starting in goal for Arizona. I’ll go with Nashville in regulation for half a unit. No chance I’d lay the moneyline at -250.
Blues vs. Ducks (8:00)
The Ducks are the worst team in the NHL and they still haven’t won in regulation. I don’t think the Blues are very good but they are much better than Anaheim is and when these teams just played two days ago St. Louis blew them out 6-2. I’d expect another similar game here. The moneyline is a bit too expensive for me here at -205, but I’ll take the Blues in regulation for 1.5 units.
Stars vs. Avalanche (8:30)
This should be a very fun game tonight between two games playing great hockey. In the light of trying to cut down on the writing I’m doing on these blogs, I’m not gonna go deep into this game but I’d expect this to be a very close, well matched game. Both teams have been really solid on both ends of the ice and they’re obviously winning games because of it. I’d slightly lean the Avs win tonight and would slightly lean the under but neither of which I think are worth betting on. If there was only one game I could watch tonight, regardless of action, it would be this one but that also makes no bet at all the better move here.
Sharks vs. Senators (10:30)
Both of these teams stink. Zero interest in betting this. I’d slightly lean the Senators win on the road and the over but not enough to bet on either of them, so I’ll skip this game completely.
Canucks vs. Golden Knights (10:30)
The Golden Knights are the best team in the West this season with a 14-4-1 record but they’ve struggled a bit lately with three losses in their last four games and are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Edmonton on Saturday. They’re one of the top teams in the NHL on both ends of the ice. The Canucks, despite winning their last two games, have struggled immensely on the back end although their offense has been capable enough. I love Vegas to bounce back from their overtime loss to the Oilers on Saturday and will take them for 2 units here in what I think is a fantastic matchup and great spot on the road with a price that is much better than I expected in this Pacific Division matchup.
