Huge 4.5+ unit swing on the Devils giving up the tying goal with eight seconds left last night but I finished the night going 6-4 on the NHL to pretty much break even, losing 0.12 units. Tonight we just have three games before a huge slate tomorrow.
Rangers vs. Senators (7:00)
These teams just played against each other on Wednesday in Ottawa for the first half of this home and home, with the Rangers getting right with a 3-1 win to end their three game losing streak even with backup Jaro Halak starting. The Rags haven’t been great this season, coming into tonight with an 11-9-4 record. Their offense hasn’t been producing at a great level and Igor Shesterkin hasn’t produced to the insane level he did last year but he is confirmed back in goal tonight and is a huge upgrade to Halak. The Senators have been horrible this season, coming into tonight’s game with an 8-13-1 record, picking up only four wins in their last 16 games. Ottawa’s been okay offensively but horrible on the back end. I like the Rangers to win here and will lay the juice on them for a unit at home tonight.
Islanders vs. Predators (7:30)
Last night I got completely fucked on the Predators tying it up to force overtime against the Devils in the last eight seconds before the Preds went on to get a big win on the road, their second overtime win in a row and third in their last four games. They’re 11-8-2 coming into tonight’s game with a solid 6-1-1 record in their last eight games. They have struggled on both ends of the ice a bit, especially offensively. The Islanders were complete duds on Wednesday night, preventing me from sweep the slate that night with their 3-1 no show loss in Philly. That loss ended the Isles four game losing streak but they’ve been very good this season with a 15-9 record on the year. They’ve played well offensively and their defense with Ilya Sorokin’s goaltending has been fantastic. These teams played in a fun game on November 17th in Nashville, with the Preds winning 5-4. I’ll take the Isles here for 2 units looking for the bounce back spot with the Islanders at home and the Preds on the second half of a back to back.
Jets vs. Blue Jackets (8:00)
This is a huge mismatch. The Winnipeg Jets have sneakily been very good this season with a 14-6-1 record. They’re coming off a huge 5-0 shutout win at home against the Avalanche on Tuesday and are on a three game win streak with a 12-3-1 record in their last 16 games. The Jets have been fantastic on both ends of the ice this season, playing great offense and shutting it down on the backend with one of the best goalies in the NHL in Connor Hellebuyck. The Blue Jackets on the other hand suck. On Monday the Jackets came back from down 2-0 at home to the Golden Knights and forced overtime (only loss on that night’s slate for me) but ultimately lost in a shootout for their third consecutive loss. They’re now 7-12-2 on the season. Columbus has struggled offensively but more importantly, they’re one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL this season, just bleeding away goals every game. The moneyline in this game is a bit too expensive but I’ll take the Jets in regulation for 1.5 units along with the Jets TT over 3.5 for half a unit and hopefully this game is as easy of a double winner as their game in Chicago was on Sunday.
