NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 12/5/22

Pretty good bounce back day on the NHL for me yesterday, going 5-2 to win 2.14 units. Tonight we have a pretty good six game slate, let’s win again!

Bruins vs. Golden Knights (7:00)

This is a great matchup between two of the top teams in each conference who could very potentially end up meeting in the Stanley Cup Finals as the two favorites out of each division right now. After dominating the defending cup champion Avs on Saturday night, the Bruins are 20-3 on the season with a perfect 14-0 record at home. Their start to this season has been historic, with them playing the best hockey in the league on both ends of the ice. The Golden Knights lead the West with an 18-7-1 record. They’ve been fantastic as well this year, on both ends of the ice and are absolutely a Cup contender. On Saturday they got an easy 4-1 win in Detroit, a nice win after going on a bit of a lousy stretch. I give Boston the edge in this game at home and I’ll lay the juice here, taking the Bruins for a unit. I’d lean the under but not enough to bet it.

Rangers vs. Blues (7:00)

I had pretty high offseason expectations for these teams after their runs in the playoffs last year but they’ve both sucked this season. The Rangers after losing 5-2 at home on Saturday to lousy Blackhawks have now only picked up one win in their last six games and they’re 11-10-5 on the season. Not only is their offense not performing, Igor Shesterkin and the Rags defense hasn’t played to the insane level that they did last year. The Blues have been terrible too. They’re coming off a 6-2 loss in Pittsburgh on Saturday and have dropped to 11-13 on the year, also with only one win in their last six games. They’ve sucked on both ends of the ice, especially defensively with terrible goaltending from Binnington, who seems to just become a hot head every game. I’d slightly lean the Rangers at home here and the over, but I have zero interest in betting on this lousy matchup. I’ll skip this game.

Flyers vs. Avalanche (7:00)

This game is a huge mismatch. The Avalanche are 13-8-1 defending the cup so far this season. They’re coming off a 5-1 blowout loss in Boston on Saturday but they’ve played well this season with solid hockey on both ends of the ice. The Flyers on the other hand are horrible this season. Coming off a 3-2 loss at home to the Devils on Saturday, they’ve only won one of their last 13 games to tank down to 8-12-5 on the season. This team blows. Their offense is one of the worst units in the NHL and defensively, they’re leaving Carter Hart out to dry to a point that he can’t even save them with fantastic play in goal. I love Colorado to bounce back from their loss to the Bruins and dominated the lousy Flyer tonight, even on the road in Philly. I’ll take the Avs in regulation here for 2 units.

Oilers vs. Capitals (8:30)

The Oilers, coming off a 5-3 win against the Habs on Saturday have won four of their last five games improving to 14-11 on the year, but this team still has issues. Their offense has been incredibly reliant on two of the best players in the league in McDavid and Draisaitl without much depth behind them. Additionally, Edmonton’s defense and goaltending sucks. They’ve given up at least three goals in each of their last nine games. The Caps have had a ton of injury issues, coming into tonight’s game with a 10-12-4 record after a 5-2 loss in Calgary on Saturday. They haven’t been great on either end of the ice either, putting them around league average in both categories. When these teams played in Washington DC on November 7th, we got a great game with the Caps winning 5-4 in an entertaining back and forth game. I’d lean the Oilers get a win tonight at home but not enough to bet it. What I will bet though here is the over for a unit, which I like a lot, expecting both teams to light the lamp.

Flames vs. Coyotes (9:00)

The Coyotes are one of the worst teams in the NHL, coming into tonight’s game on a four game losing streak with a 7-11-4 record after a 3-2 overtime loss in Vancouver on Saturday. They have played teams pretty close and just can’t get it done. This is a lottery team but they’re a pain in the ass to play against. Calgary’s been a big disappointment to me this season. They’re coming off a 5-2 win against the Caps on Saturday, just their second win in their last six games. For a team I thought could win the cup this season, they haven’t performed to the level that it takes to win a Stanley Cup and have struggled a bit on both ends of the ice. I’d expect the Flames to win here but with how both of these teams have played, I don’t think the -355 price is worth betting on at all. Additionally, I don’t really trust Calgary to get it done in regulation to make it worth paying the juice on. I’ll lay off this game.

Canucks vs. Canadiens (9:00)

I think this game is way closer than the -235 line on this game indicates between these two sort of lousy cross conference Canadian teams. The Habs are coming off a 5-3 loss in Edmonton on Saturday night but they have played much improved hockey this season with a 12-11-1 record. A big step up from being the worst team in the NHL last year. They still aren’t all the good on either end of the ice though. The Canucks are 10-12-3 on the season and coming off a 3-2 overtime win against the Yotes on Saturday at home (loser for me on the regulation line), they’ve won six of their last nine games. These teams played the first time this season in Montreal on November 9th where the Habs got off to a 4-0 lead and rode that to an easy 5-2 win. I’d slightly lean the Canucks win here at home but don’t see any value on betting them at the price. If anything, I’d take the value on the Habs but I’d rather just stay off of this game.
