NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 12/30/22

I absolutely crushed last night’s NHL slate, going 8-2 to win 4.72 units and winning back all of Wednesday’s losses and more. Tonight we have just a four game slate with another huge slate coming tomorrow. Let’s crush these games!

Ducks vs. Predators (5:00)

I broke this game down in depth on my article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, I’d lean the Predators win in a low scoring game. I’ll take the Preds ML and the alternate under 6.5 in this game for half a unit each.

Penguins vs. Devils (7:00)

These two Metro Divison teams have had great seasons but they’re struggling quite a bit right now. The Devils, after losing back to back games at home to the Bruins are now 22-11-2 on the season. They’re in a gigantic slump after their fantastic start to the year, having only won one game of their last nine. New Jersey has been quite good on both ends of the ice this season. On Wednesday night, the Penguins blew a 4-0 first period lead and ended up losing 5-4 to the Red Wings for their third straight loss. They’ve dropped to fourth place in the Metro with a 19-10-6 record with just one win in their last five games after they had gone on a seven game win streak. Pittsburgh’s offense has been fantastic this season but they’ve struggled a bit defensively. I’d lean the Penguins win at home and would lean the over in this game but not enough to bet either, so I’ll just lay off this game.

Hurricanes vs. Panthers (7:30)

The Hurricanes are playing fantastic hockey, leading the Metro Division with a 23-6-6 record. Coming off a 3-0 shutout win against the Blackhawks at home on Tuesday, they’re on a nine game winning streak, picking up at least a point in each of their last 15 games and didn’t in only one of their last twenty. Carolina’s offense has been decent but their defense has been elite as one of the best defensive units in the NHL. The Panthers bounced back from their three game losing streak with a dominant 7-2 win last night against the Habs. They’ve struggled a bit this season, coming into tonight’s game with a 16-16-4 record, a big drop off from when they won the President’s Trophy last season. Florida’s offense has been good but they’ve played poorly on the back end. In the first game between these teams this season in Florida on November 9th, the Panthers shut out the Hurricanes 3-0. I like the Canes to answer back with a win tonight and will take them for a unit.

Kraken vs. Oilers (10:00)

This lines up for what should be a pretty fun matchup between these two Pacific Division teams. The Kraken are much improved from last season, coming into tonight with an 18-11-4 record after a 3-2 loss at home to the Flames on Wednesday. They’ve only mustered up three wins in their last ten games. Seattle’s offense has been quite good but they’ve struggled defensively. The Oilers are coming off a 2-1 win in Calgary in the last Battle of Alberta of the regular season on Tuesday, improving to 19-15-2 on the year. They’ve been very inconsistent as well, with just two wins in their last six games. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are two of the best players in the NHL and with their fantastic play, Edmonton’s offense has been rolling despite there not being depth behind those two. The defense and goaltending for the Oilers though, has been horrible. I’d lean the Oilers win here but not enough to even consider betting it. With two solid offenses and two lousy defenses, I like the over here, which I will take for a unit.
