NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 1/4/23

Another solid profitable night for me on the NHL yesterday, going 6-3 to win 1.96 units, continuing my hot run. After yesterday’s huge slate, we have just three games tonight before another big ten-game slate tomorrow.

Red Wings vs. Devils (7:00)

This is an interesting matchup. The Devils started off this season in incredible fashion but have since cooled down, picking up only two wins in their last eleven games to drop to 23-11-3 on the season. They’ve statistically still been very good on both ends of the ice this season. The Red Wings are much improved from last year, coming into tonight’s game with a 16-12-7 record. After a 4-2 win against the Sens on Saturday, they’ve won three of their last four games. Detroit’s offense has been good this season but they’ve struggled defensively. This is the final meeting of the season between these teams as they split their two previous games with the road team winning each time, a 5-2 win for the Red Wings on October 15th and a 6-2 win for the Devils on October 25th. I like the Devils to keep the road team trend going in the finale of this season series and will take them to win along with the alternate over 6 for half a unit each.

Wild vs. Lightning (9:30)

Last night the Lightning were in Chicago and started off slow, going into the second intermission tied up 1-1 but they were able to rally in the third period to beat the Blackhawks 4-1 (cashing both my team total and puck line). That win extended Tampa’s win streak to four in a row improving to 24-11-1 on the season as they’re comfortably in third place in the Atlantic Division. They’ve been fantastic offensively but not quite as good defensively as they have been the last three seasons when they won their three straight Eastern Conference Finals and two Cups. With Brian Elliott getting the start last night, Andrei Vasilevskiy should be back in goal tonight. After their slow start to the season, the Wild have been great lately too. They’re 21-13-2 on the year, coming off a 5-2 win in St. Louis on Saturday to finish 2022 with eight wins in their last ten games. They’ve played solid hockey on both ends of the ice. With the Lightning on the second half of a back-to-back, I’d lean the Wild win here but not enough to bet on it. I’d also lean the over, but also not enough to bet on it. This should be an incredible game and I can’t wait to tune in for it even though I’m laying off of it.

Ducks vs. Stars (10:00)

I broke this game down in depth for my article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, I really like the Stars to bounce back from last night’s loss in LA with a big win in Anaheim and will load up on Dallas with a unit on them in regulation, half a unit on the puck line -1.5 and 1.5 units on the Stars team total over 3.5. I’d lean the under on the full game but not enough to actually bet it.

Game Bets

.5u Devils ML (-165)

.5u Devils/Red Wings over 6 (-137)

1u Stars in regulation (-120)
