I came close to breaking even but fell a little short on yesterday’s pretty big NHL slate for a Sunday, going 6-5 to lose 0.85 units. Tonight we have just a small four game slate before a monster sized slate tomorrow.
Sabres vs. Flyers (7:00)
After the most entertaining game of the year on Saturday night where the Sabres took down the Wild with a 6-5 overtime win as the magic of the red and black goathead jerseys continued for Buffalo, who’s undefeated in those sweaters and have scored six goals in every game they’ve worn them. The 20-15-2 Sabres are playing great right now with the top scoring offense in the NHL but have struggled quite a bit defensively. The Flyers had their four game winning streak come to an end yesterday as they lost 6-2 at home to the Leafs. Philly has been horrible this season with a 15-18-7, struggling on both ends of the ice. I expect the Sabres to win this game in a likely blowout at home. I’ll take the Sabres in regulation for a unit along with the Sabres team total over 3.5 for 1.5 units. Additionally, I’ll also take the over for a unit.
Canadiens vs. Kraken (7:30)
I broke this game down in depth in my article on StatSalt. I’m expecting the Kraken to get a win here on the road tonight and will take Seattle in regulation and their team total over 3.5 for half a unit each.
Senators vs. Predators (7:30)
This is a pretty good matchup between two teams that aren’t great this season. Ottawa’s played relatively well lately, coming into tonight’s game with four wins in their last six games to improve to 18-18-3 on the season. They are coming off an 8-4 blowout loss to the Kraken at home on Saturday though. The Sens have struggled a bit on both ends of the ice this year. The Predators are playing their best hockey of the year right now, coming off a 3-2 win in Washington on Friday night, they’re on a three game winning streak, picking up at least a point in each of their last five games and in eight of their last nine games, improving to 18-14-6 on the season. Their defense and goaltending has been pretty solid this season but they’ve struggled offensively. Ottawa won the first game between these teams 3-2 in Nashville on December 10th. I’d lean the Preds win here on the road and would slightly lean the under, but neither enough to bet on so I’ll just lay off this game entirely.
Kings vs. Oilers (10:30)
This should be a fun Pacific Division matchup in LA tonight. The Kings have played great lately, sitting comfortably in second place in the division with a 23-14-6 record. They bounced back from a home loss to the Bruins on Thursday with a big 5-1 win in Vegas on Saturday. LA has gone 8-2-1 in their last eleven games. Coming off a 3-2 overtime loss at home to the Avs on Saturday, the 21-17-3 Oilers are struggling with just four wins in their last eleven games. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are two of the best players in the world and even without much depth behind them, Edmonton’s offense has been very good. Their defense and goaltending on the other hand blows though. The Kings won the first game in Edmonton between these teams this season on November 16th, beating the Oilers 3-1. I’d lean they win again here tonight at home and would also slightly lean the under but not enough to bet it. I’ll skip betting this game completely.
