Second big winning day for me in a row on the NHL last night, as I went 9-4 to win 3.52 units. Tonight we have a good six game slate. Let’s keep rolling!
Maple Leafs vs. Blackhawks (7:00)
Tonight we have the biggest mismatch of the season with the Leafs coming in as shocking -500 favorites. Toronto is pretty much locked into a first round rematch in the playoffs with the Lightning, with a 32-14-8 record. They lost 4-3 at home against the Blue Jackets on Saturday in the second half of a back to back home and home. They’ve played well on both ends of the ice and are one of the best defensive teams in the NHL. The Blackhawks on the other hand are one of the worst teams in the NHL this season with a 16-31-5 record. They’re in the second half a back to back after getting shut out 4-0 in Montreal last night. Chicago’s only picked up two wins in their last eight games and have been one of the worst teams in the NHL on both ends of the ice. I’d expect the Leafs to win this game easily but I don’t see any value betting this game at the insane prices, so I’ll just skip this one tonight.
Coyotes vs. Lightning (9:00)
This is another huge mismatch. Last night the Lightning came back to force overtime and then beat the Avs 4-3 in a shootout in the second rematch of the year of last season’s Stanley Cup Finals. The Bolts are on a three game win streak and pretty much locked into a first round playoff series against the Leafs again, with a 25-16-2 record on the season. They’ve been great on both ends of the ice. The Coyotes are the front runner in the Bedard sweepstakes with a 18-28-8 record, but are coming off a 4-2 win in Nashville on Monday night. The Yotes have been one of the worst teams in the NHL this season. The Lightning won the frist game between these teams in Tampa 5-3 on December 31st. I’d expect another easy win for them tonight at home, even in the second half of a back to back. The moneyline is too expensive for me at -235 but I’ll take the Bolts in regulation and their team total over 3.5 for a unit each.
Oilers vs. Red Wings (9:30)
This is an interesting matchup that’s better than it looks on paper. I broke this game down in depth with my article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, I like the Oilers to get a win here in a high scoring game. I’ll take the Oilers in regulation for 1.5 units and the over for a unit.
Wild vs. Avalanche (9:30)
I expect a low scoring grind of a game here as I broke down in depth in my article previewing this game on StatSalt. I like the under, which I’ll take for a unit. I’d slight lean the Avs win here on the road even in the second half of a back to back, but not enough to bet it.
Canucks vs. Rangers (10:00)
I think this is a big mismatch. The Rangers are on fire, coming into tonight’s game on a five game win streak after a 6-2 blowout win in Carolina on Saturday night. They’ve won 20 of their last 27 games to improve to 31-14-8 on the season, comfortably in third place in the Metro Division. They’ve been good on both ends of the ice this season, especially defensively. Vancouver’s been terrible this season with a 21-29-4 record, after two losses in a row to the Red Wings, including a 6-1 loss at home on Monday night, they’ve won only five of their last 20 games. The Canucks have been horrendous defensively, one of the worst teams in the NHL on the back end. The Rangers won the first game between these teams 4-3 at home last Wednesday. I’d expect another win here. I’m loading up on this game with a 1.5 units on the Rangers in regulation and 2 units on the Rangers team total over 3.5. I like the over as well, which I’ll take for a unit.
Sabres vs. Ducks (10:00)
The Sabres are in a slump right now, coming into tonight’s game on a four game losing streak after a pathetic 5-2 loss in LA on Monday night, dropping to 26-22-4 on the season. We have a fantastic offense that’s been in a slump in this losing streak, scoring two or less goals in each of those four games. Our defense has struggled though this season. The Ducks are one of the worst teams in the NHL this season with a 17-31-6 record, coming off two big losses in a row, losing 7-2 in Vegas on Sunday and 6-3 at home against the Penguins on Friday. Anehiem’s been one of the worst teams in the NHL this season on both ends of the ice. The Sabres won the first game these teams played this season pretty easily, winning 6-3 at home on January 21st. I like my Sabres to win here on the road to close out this and will take them in regulation for a unit. I also like the over, which I’ll take for a unit as well.
