NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 2/16/23

I had my third huge winning day in a row last night on the NHL, going 7-3 to win 3.62 units. Tonight we have an eight game slate, let’s keep on crushing it!!

Capitals vs. Panthers (7:00)

I broke this game down in depth with my article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, especially with Ovi out for the Caps due to the death of his father, I expect the Panthers offense to overpower the Caps to get a win. I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over in this game but not enough to bet it.

Hurricanes vs. Canadiens (7:00)

This is a huge mismatch but it has the big twist with the Habs coming into tonight’s game on a three game winning streak. Carolina’s the significantly better team here, coming into tonight’s game leading the Metro Division with a 35-10-8 record. With a 3-2 win in Washington on Tuesday, they’ve gone 10-1-1 in their last ten games. They’ve been good on both ends of the ice, especially defensively. The Canadiens have struggled this season quite a bit on both ends of the ice and are 23-27-4 on the season. They are on a three game win streak though, coming off a 4-0 shutout win against the Blackhawks on Tuesday after beating the Oilers 6-2 on Sunday afternoon. I expect the Canes to end Montreal’s winning streak pretty easily tonight, but just like the Leafs game last night, an NHL game is never worth betting on at a -455 and even the regulation line and puck lines are too expensive. Even the team total at 4 is juiced up too high to need five goals. Fuck that. If anything just wait and hope for the Habs to maybe get a two goal lead and then live bet Carolina, but pregame (and probably live because I don’t care) I’m staying off this one. I like the under though, which I’ll take for half a unit.

Blue Jackets vs. Jets (7:00)

This is a huge mismatch with too cheap of a line for me not to hammer. The Blue Jackets have been awful this season, coming into tonight’s game with a 16-34-4 record and just six wins in their last 27 games. They’ve been one of the worst teams in the NHL on both ends of the ice this year. The Jets have had a really good season, coming into tonight’s game in second place in the Central, just two points back from Dallas with a 34-19-1 record. They’re on a three game win streak, coming off a 3-2 shootout win against the Kraken on Tuesday. Winnipeg’s been great on both ends of the ice this season, especially defensively. The Blue Jackets won the first game between these teams this season 4-1 in Winnipeg on December 2nd. Even with the Jets starting backup David Rittich in goal, I don’t see a chance in hell that the Jackets sweep them this season. I’ll take the Jets in regulation tonight for 2 units.

Predators vs. Bruins (8:00)

I’d expect a defensive grind of a game tonight here. The Bruins are the best team in the NHL this season with a historic 40-8-5 record. They’re in a slump right now with just two wins in their last six games which was the first time they lost two games in a row this season, but are coming off a 3-2 overtime win in Dallas on Tuesday night (double winner for me). They’ve been one of the best teams in the NHL on both ends of the ice. The Preds are coming off a surprising 4-2 loss to the Coyotes on Monday but have played well recently with six wins in their last nine games to improve to 25-20-6 on the season. They’ve struggled offensively but have been very good defensively. I like the Bruins to win here on the road and will take them for a unit along with the alternate under 6 for a unit.

Flames vs. Red Wings (9:00)

This is an interesting matchup for a game I expect to be pretty close. I broke it down in depth with an article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, I’d slightly lean the Flames and the under here but not enough to bet on either. I almost considered taking the Red Wings here for the insane +205 value as an underdog, but since they’re on the second half of a back to back on the road, I’ll just stay off this game completely.

Blues vs. Devils (9:00)

The Devils are having an awesome season. Coming off a 3-2 win in Columbus on Tuesday that cashed a huge bet for me with 1.2 seconds left in regulation, the Devils are in second place in the Metro with a 35-13-5 record with an insane 20-3-3 record on the road this season. They’re on a great run recently too with an 11-1-2 record in their last 14 games, playing great hockey on both ends of the ice. The Blues on the other hand, despite winning their last two wins in a row, scoring six goals in each of those games, have sucked this season with a 25-25-3 on the season. They’ve been decent offensively but have been horrible defensively. The price on this game was significantly cheaper than I thought it would be. I’ll take the Devils for 2 units and the alternate over 6 for half a unit.

Kraken vs. Flyers (10:00)

Both of these teams have been in a bit of a slump lately, but as I said in my article breaking this game down in depth on StatSalt, I like the Kraken to get the win here. The moneyline is too expensive for me but I’ll take Seattle in regulation for a unit. I like the under as well, expecting this to be a grind of a game. I’ll take the under for half a unit.

Golden Knights vs. Sharks (10:00)

This is a pretty big mismatch in the Pacific Division between the Golden Knights, and their biggest rival, the Sharks. Vegas is on a three game winning streak to improve to 32-18-4 to lead the Pacific Division with a point lead over the Kings, after they had gone on a lousy stretch. They’ve been decent, but not spectacular on either end of the ice. The Sharks have been terrible this season with a 17-27-11 record on the year but have played relatively well lately. Coming off a 3-1 loss to the Penguins at home on Tuesday that was shocking to not hit the over with the pace of the game, they’ve won three of their last five games. These teams split their two previous games this season with the road team winning both games, a 4-2 Knights win on October 25th in San Jose and a 5-2 Sharks win in Vegas on November 15th. I’d expect the Knights to win tonight in the Fortress and wil ll take them for a unit in regulation along with the over for a unit.
