Sabres @ Panthers: 2/24/23 – Game Reactions/Recap

After last night’s incredible win in Tampa, the Sabres followed it up tonight with a thrilling 3-1 victory in Sunrise, Florida against the Panthers. Another great win to put Buffalo in a playoff spot!

Entertaining first period that saw some good scoring chances for both teams but we went into the first intermission tied up a 0-0. Solid start for the Sabres and I was pretty happy with how they played on both ends of the ice, especially in the second half of a back-to-back.

The Sabres scored first just 3:51 into the second period, with Jeff Skinner scoring. Tage Thompson dangled in the middle of the ice, gave the quick pass to Skinner, who beat Bobrovsky. On another great feed from Tommer, Henri Jokiharju walked in and shot a rocket past Bob to make it 2-0 Sabres with 13:30 left in the second. After review though it was determined to be offside on a challenge from Florida, so no goal and we’re back to 1-0. With 11:16 left in the second, Buffalo got the two goal lead back, with an Alex Tuch goal on the power play. Another good period for the Sabres to have a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

The Panthers broke Craig Anderson’s shutout and made it a 2-1 game with 11:36 in the third period as Carter Verhaeghe scored on a one-timer from Anthony Duclair. The Sabres answered back with 9:24 to go, with Jeff Skinner scoring his second goal of the game with some great work down low and then taking a low-angle shot maybe a foot above the red line to get the Sabres a 3-1 lead.

Final: Sabres 3, Panthers 1

Another fantastic win for the Sabres tonight. They played a very good game which is even more impressive that they did it after last night’s emotional game. We were outshot 52-34 by Florida with the scoring chances 36-23 in the Panthers favor. The cats poured it on with 25 shots in the third period but with a huge 51 save performance from Craig Anderson in goal, we got the win. The first line produced as well with Skinner scoring twice, both beautiful goals.

We’re now in a playoff spot holding the second Wild Card spot in the East and with five games in hand, we control our own destiny, keep winning and we’re in! Let’s fucking goooo!

Back in action Sunday afternoon for a matinee against the Capitals.
