NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 3/6/23

I made a slight profit yesterday for my third winning day on the NHL in a row, going 3-3-1 to win 0.66 units. Tonight we have a six game slate, let’s keep rolling!!

Sabres vs. Oilers (7:30)

This is a huge game for the Sabres with McDavid, Draisaitl, and the Oilers coming to town. I broke the game down in depth with my article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, although I’d lean the Oilers win here on the road in Buffalo, I don’t like them nearly enough to bet against my boys in this huge game. I love the over in this game, but at 7, juiced all the way up to -125, I have to limit my action on this one to 1.5 units. Originally when I looked at this game, prior to looking at the lines on it, I was thinking this would be my biggest bet of the season, but at 7 juice up and the 6.5 all the way at -186, I have to tone it down a bit.

Jets vs. Sharks (7:30)

This isn’t a great game in the Western Conference and I broke it down in depth in my article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, I expect an easy win for the Jets tonight at home and although the moneyline is a bit too expensive at -225, I will take them in regulation for 2 units. I’d slightly lean the under, but not enough to bet on it.

Stars vs. Flames (8:30)

The first game between these teams was very fun, with the Flames winning 6-5 in Dallas on January 14th. I don’t expect this matchup to be great though. The Stars lead the Central Division, a point back from Vegas for first place in the West with a 34-16-13 record. Coming off a 7-3 win at home against the Avalanche (double loser for me) on Saturday, they’re on a three game win streak with a 4-0-1 record in their last five games. Dallas has played great on both ends of the ice this season. The Flames have been a huge disappointment this season. Coming off a 3-0 shutout loss at home to the Wild on Saturday night (easy double winner for me), they’re now on a five game losing streak with only three wins in their last 13 games to drop to 27-23-13 on the season. Calgary hasn’t been great on either end of the ice. I expect the Stars to win at home tonight and will take them for 1.5 units. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.

Blackhawks vs. Senators (9:00)

The Senators have been on fire, coming into tonight’s game on a five game win streak after a 5-2 win against the Blue Jackets on Saturday. They’ve averaged 5.4 goals per game in that span, improving to 32-26-4 on the season. On the year, Ottawa’s been decent offensively but they’ve had their struggled on the back end. The Blackhawks have been horrible and after the trade deadline where they traded their two best players in Patrick Kane and Max Domi, they have easily the worst offense in the NHL and are only marginally better on the back end. Coming off a 3-1 loss (huge double winner for me) to the Predators on Saturday, they’re on a four game losing streak to drop to 21-36-5 on the year. Chicago won the first game between these cross-conference teams with a 4-3 overtime win on the road on February 17th. I don’t see that happening tonight and I’m hammering the Sens tonight. I’ll go with 2.5 units on the Senators in regulation, 1.5 units on the Sens TT over 3.5 and half a unit on the Blackhawks team total under 2.5 in regulation. I’d lean the over but not enough to bet on it.

Kings vs. Capitals (10:30)

This should be a fun game between two teams playing pretty well recently. The Kings are in second place in the Pacific Division with a 36-20-8 record and they’re on a three game winning streak after a 4-2 win at home against the Blues on Saturday night. In their last eleven games they’ve gone 8-2-1. LA’s been good offensively all season but they’ve been inconsistent defensively. The Capitals have struggled at plenty of points this season but come into tonight’s game with three wins in their last four games after a 8-3 win in San Jose on Saturday. Washington’s offense hasn’t been great this year but their defense and goaltending has been solid. The Caps won the first matchup between these teams this season, winning 4-3 at home on October 22nd. I like the Kings to win here at home and will take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over but not enough to bet it.

Canucks vs. Predators (10:30)

Not a great matchup here to close out the night but both previous games between these teams were quite good, with the Preds winning in a shootout in each of them, a 4-3 win in Vancouver on November 5th and a 5-4 win at home in Smashville on February 21st. Despite trading away a bunch of assets at the deadline, Nashville’s been rolling recently with five wins in their last six games to improve to 31-23-6 on the season. They’ve struggled to score this year but with Juuse Saros in goal, they’ve been very good defensively. The Canucks have been a mess of a franchise this season and haven’t been good, with a 25-32-5 record. They’re coming off a shocking 4-1 win against the Leafs on Saturday and they’ve gone 4-2-1 in their last seven games. I’d lean the Preds win on the road to complete the season sweep and the over in this game but not enough to bet on either, so I’ll just lay off this one entirely.
