Lousy day on the NHL that started with the Bruins losing in Detroit and then carried on, as I went 2-5 to lose 4.24 units. Just three games tonight before a big slate tomorrow, let’s bounce back.
Maple Leafs vs. Sabres (7:30)
My Sabres are in a huge slump and this won’t be an easy game tonight in Toronto with the Leafs having crushed us in both previous games. I broke this matchup down in depth in my article on StatSalt. As I said in my article, I’d lean the Leafs beat us pretty easily tonight. I won’t be betting on the side though. Fuck Toronto, Go Sabres. I love the over here though and will take the alternate over 6.5 for a unit.
Canadiens vs. Avalanche (7:30)
Huge mismatch in this cross-conference game. The Habs are having a pretty lousy season, with just a 26-34-6 record, coming into tonight’s game on a six game losing streak after a 3-1 loss at home to the Devils on Saturday. They’ve struggled plenty on both ends of the ice. The Avs definitely took a step back from winning the Cup last year but are still having a pretty good season, with a 36-22-6 record. Coming off a 3-2 win that needed overtime at home against the Coyotes on Saturday, they’ve just won two of their last six games. Colorado’s offense is significantly worst than they were last year but their defense has been very good. The Avs won the first game between these teams on December 21st at home, needing OT for a 2-1 win. I’d expect them to win again, but I don’t think they’re worth betting on a -250 nor do I want to limit myself to regulation only in this matchup. I’d lean the under as well but not enough to bet it, so I’ll just stay off this game entirely.
Kraken vs. Stars (10:00)
Fun Western Conference game tonight between two teams in playoff spots right now. These teams just played two days ago in Seattle with the Stars winning 4-3 in overtime in a very entertaining game where they tied it up to force OT with 1:10 left in the regulation. Dallas is having an awesome season, leading the Central Division with a 36-17-13 record, three points behind Vegas to lead the West and a point ahead of Minnesota. The Stars have gone 6-1-1 in their last eight games and they’ve played very good hockey on both ends of the ice this year. The Kraken are having a hell of a bounce back year from their awful inaugural season last year as they’re in third place in the Pacific Division with a 37-22-7 record. Seattle’s offense has been very good this season but their defense has been pretty inconsistent. I’d slightly lean the Stars win again here but not enough to bet on it. I like the over once again though and will take it for half a unit.
